Question Failed MOD!! (fog light conversion)

First off I found the problem to one of my fog lights being brighter than the other...

Second issue is that today I attempted to perform the fog light conversion but I failed

I found more than one RED wire with SILVER dots/dashes on it and I didn't even see the RED wire with BLUE stripes (I'm sure it's there)

But that's not the most of my worries...after I find the wires I'm still not sure what to do..I know I'm suppose to connect them together, but HOW!!!??? Some ppl say just cut the 2 wires and tie them together some say "5 Amp Connector with wires to Crimp" (I don't even know what that means). ...

can some one please please be very specific on how to do it. Sorry for the long post but I really wanna do this mod, and do it right!

Thanks for all your help...

Here is what I found under the wheel ...

Yeah!!!! That's exactly what I'm trying to do, I wanna be able to turn on the parking lights and the fogs to come on too.

If you can post the DIY with pix that would be awesome. I'm having trouble knowing what to do with the wires so if you can be specific on that it would be MUCH appreciated.

Give me some time(couple of hours) I need to tear everything apart again. I'll post it ASAP. The problem is that Fog's go off when you turn High's ON. If thats allright with you. There's only one wire that you have to cut and splice to the other wire.

Guys this is my first DYI so please avoid any mistake in write-up

OK do it at your own risk. This mod will make your lights work like DRL's(as soon as your ignition is on, lights will come ON and OFF as you turn your ignition off but you still be able to turn them ON/OFF from fog light switch). Here we go

Start off by taking steering cover off by taking 6 screws out.

Follow the light switch and take that white connector out..

Look for RED/BLUE(red wire with blue strips, don't get confused with red/black and red/green)

You will need a piece of wire about 10 inches and splice connect it with that RED/BLUE wire(its upto you if you want to cut and connect it or try little and take out the pin cuz if in future you change your mind you'll be able to simply PLUG-N-PLAY)

Here how it looks

Now take the bottom cover off..

Take the green connector out and LEAVE IT ALONE UNTIL YOU ARE DONE..

Follow these wires and take out the BLUE IGNITION CONNECTOR..

Here's how Ignition connector looks..

Look for thick YELLOW wire and splice connect that wire you connected with RED/BLUE with this one...

Plug everything back in..

Put steering cover back and pack up here is the result...

Ohh wow tmnhs81 this is real nice you did a great job and your
grammer is proper

If I may ask just one thing?? "Look for thick YELLOW wire and splice connect that wire you connected with RED/BLUE with this one.." when I splice connect 'my wire' I used, to the yellow one, do I need to pull the yellow one out or cut it? Or just simply place the pink splice over the yellow wire and connect them that way??? just like you have shown in the image? No need to strip the yellow wire? (i guess it sounds too easy to just place the pink splice over the yellow wire connecting the two).

Thank you very much for this DIY and for your time.

Sorry for that dude. But don't mess up everything dude, just splice connect that wire to thick YELLOW wire and don't cut it. that wire is for ON position on ignition switch, so just splice that wire on it. Have fun.

You can probably get another condom from a salvage yard and I got my fogs to run independently by just crimping the red/blue and red/silver dots together.

Cool, but what I did is turn them into DRL's(kind of..lol). I think this was the easiest one I found but both ways do same thing its cool, I didn't knew about that the one you did so I print some wiring diagrams, followed the wires and found this one preety easy..

If I'm correct what you mean by DRLs is that when the key is in ignition II they come on because if I'm correct desired_speeds did that but that is pretty cool if you did that to. I can turn mine on and off independently by the switch and I love the look that they give the car at night. The other one took me literally 3 minutes to do. It took me longer to find the wires then to hook up the crimp. Good work though.

Yeah thats what I did because with this DIY(https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-121/diy-parking-lights-fog-lights-522181/) you can only turn them ON when your PARKING LIGHTS are ON, But the one I did you can turn them ON without Parking Lights and still able to use switch for ON/OFF, I think thats how DRL's work.(just guessed)

Great write up! You basically energized the fog lights by getting through the main ignition power supply. So when you turn on your headlights (which will energize the fogs power supply), what happens? I am not an electrical guy....just wondering.

The other process is to energize the fogs through the park lights power supply.

Interesting....nice write up. You must be an expert (at least know somwthing about car electricals).

Now that you have mentioned this...can you actually just use the fogs while driving at night? I do not think so....but yes, it looks good.

when you removed your yellow condoms did you see that metal "shield"? what about removing that will that allow your fogs to shine further???

or are those there strictly so the fogs will not burn a hole in the headlight when left on for prolonged periods of time??? (heat shields? maybe idk)

Nothing happens as I know, But I can check on that. Currently I am working on how to keep Fogs ON with HIGH's ON(I think need to ground some wire from FOG LIGHT SWITCH to completely make them independent).

And I am not an expert but a student learning automotive electronics.

I use them only when I'm in the city and there are street lights almost everywhere but once I get on the highway the headlights come on right away.

Here are mine with the single 3minute wiretap. They are completely independent of all other lights with a working switch.

Only problem is that they stay on even with the car turned off. Wish they turned off when the car was off. Does this method correct that? Oh, and nice writeup!!

Hey, looks good!

Yeah, this method totally fixes your problem, the fogs will turn off as soon as you take the key out of the ignition, even if they are still in the 'on' position.

Can you turn your fogs on without the parking lights???

Go ahead with this one bro, this won't hurt your car or battery in any way because you cut power supply to fogs as soon as you turn your ignition off. PLEASE be carefull with YELLOW Ignition Wire, DON'T cut it. As I described in previous post I am currently working on how to make them work with HIGH's ON, I'll let you guys know when I found the solution. It takes only ten minutes(took me 20+ cuz I had to locate every wire). Hit me up(with pics) after you are done. good luck and have fun.
