Exclamation Engine Overheating

Hi, I have a '96 3.2TL, its got about 220km. Its having a problem with the heating system. I changed the thermostat, but same problem occurs.

Problem:
- When you are at idle the heat comes cold.
- When the car moves the heat comes hot.
(Before heat was hot on idle too)
- Every so often, the temperature sensor on the dash would beging to rise... crossing the half point, close to 3/4 H.

I performed the cold start, and didn't find any bubbles nor oil in the radiator.

Can someone help?

When did you last change the coolant?

When you changed the coolant did you carefully bleed the air out of the system? If not I would recommend starting and cracking the bleeder to see if air is trapped. This will cause the symptoms you have.

Alternatively, I have found that if you top the radiator w/ coolant very slowly the air will bleed back through the upper radiator hose until no more coolant can be introduced. Start and circulate engine a couple of times to help circulate air out.

If you are losing coolant look for a small leak in upper or lower radiator hose. Small leaks can be tricky to spot.

It's not impossible that you have a bad thermostat. Not as likely as another problem but definitely a possibility. Sure it was installed correctly?

good luck

i am having the exact same problem as you but completly oposite cold air hot when the car is moving.

i bet its your thermostat. i bet you your thermostat gets stuck in the closed position. mine is stuck in the open position so my engine is always cold unless its above 10 degrees celcius.

try changing your thermostat.

hope that helps

engine overheating problem

I changed my coolant about 2 years ago. I also changed the thermostat. So is it the radiator thats gone bad? Does it have anything to do with the vacuum that controls the heating system in the car?
