Clunking going straight
Clunking going straight
Alright guys, so I had a clunking problem, mostly only turning left. It was slightly better when turning right. And it was iffy going straight, sometimes it would clunk if it was slightly left. To fix that problem I replaced my axles, wheel bearings and went ahead and did my rotors and brake pads and 4 brand new tires as well. Problem solved right?
Well it rode extremely smooth and quiet the first couple of days. But instead of clunking on the left, it would clunk on the right now. But the left was completely quiet. So I guess that's a start. After driving mostly highways I noticed a slight tapping when going straight. I just thought it was probably like the previous problem, my wheel must be slightly right. But even when turning left, it would still be tapping.
The day after that it started getting harder and louder just going straight!Almost like running on a flat or a bumpy rode. And you can definitely feel it through the steering wheel. By tonight when I got off work, it was so bad I could not ignore it anymore. It was shaking the car so hard and accelerating would actually calm it down a bit, because letting go of the gas there would be a secondary clunk which was more precise like something hitting against something.
I'm suspecting it may be a loose axle nut, that is the culprit of the clunking going straight. And i'm suspecting maybe the UCA or lower ball joint bushing could be the culprit for the clunking going right? Let me know guys, I'm stumped

i have the same exact problem with my 96 3.2 right now. I did all new rotors new tires, replaced a seized caliper. Yesterday I took off both front tires and I noticed that when I grabbed the right axle it had move play in it than left axle. I don't think mine is quite as bad as yours by the sound of it, only feel it really bad when making left turns. i'm looking into have the axle replaced, maybe just the CV. It's certianly a PITA. Let me know how you get on.
