Car buzzes

I have a 96 3.2 TL Premium and my friend told me it was the ABS pump that buzzes every few seconds. Is this normal for the car to do that?

no it should only buzz at startup, maybe u need to check ABS accumulator/modulator. Run the scanner on ur ABS system (get a local mechanic to help u) and see what it comes up as...post it here, and we can help.

Does the ABS light come on? If not, it likely indicates a pending fault due to leaking fluid or failing pump. Make sure fluid level is good and no indications of leaks.

You can extract codes by shorting the service check connector and counting flashes of the ABS light.

good luck

I also have ABS problem. The left front sensor was not working beceause of some wiring problem. That one is fixed. All sensors are working now. The ABS problem persists. Here is the situation; a second after the ignition; the pump engages and ABS light turns off and stays off. But a while later the pump makes the same noise (this might be up to 2-3 mi of driving. The ABS light stays off. After driving for much longer time the pump engags again and the light comes on. I didn't see any leak around or under the modulator eventhough I looked carefully. The brake fluid is up to max level. Addition to ABS problem in some cases i will have to push the brake pedal all the way down (very slowly though) at the red light (I can't exactly resimulate the problem, sometimes after heavy braking). I think the mastercylinder needs to be replaced some time later. Now I'm wondering if the master cylinder problem effects the ABS. Please keep in mind that I have very limited knowledge of the brake system that's why I 'm asking a question like this.

The master cylinder has nothing to do with your ABS system. What I'm thinking is your accumulator that's causing the problem. When I first bought the car, I would hear the ABS cycle and then the light came on. Took it in and found out it was the accumulator. That part was around $350 including labor to replace.

Now, with your brake pedal having to push all the way down, then there's a problem with your master cylinder. I also had that problem. When I hit the brakes the first time, no problems. But if you keep the brake pedal down, the pressure releases and the pedal would go all the way to the floor. So they replaced the master cylinder for $400 or so.

well, mine buzzes every ten seconds or so, and yes, my ABS light comes on and off. I start teh car in the morning, and it stays off. If I park and start the car again when its warm, then the light will come on and turn off occasionally. I thought it was weird for the ABS pump to buzz ever 10 secs. when i was looking at the car b4 buying it.

As Texashonda said 'You can extract codes by shorting the service check connector', located inside your glove dept. get a small mechanic to do it, mines didnt even charge me to check it out, if u get the code, ull pinpoint the issue rather than playin the whole field

MC does not affect ABS. Your problem is likely an internal leak since no fluid is lost. There are several possibilities, however none are easily repairable, unless you are a very serious DiY'r.

First task is get the ABS codes by shorting service check connector. This will provide a clue to the fault.

If an internal leak exists, the best bet is usually a used unit from ebay or by searching car-part.com for a source near you.

good luck

Service Check Connector is under the glove box. A 2-wire connector w/ a dummy plug clipped to the bottom of the dash panel. A shop manual would be handy to guide you on this and many other repairs.

good luck
