bubbling/gurgling/boiling sound from reservoir???
its driving me fuckin crazy now. is it air in my system?? is it the beginning of a BHG?? my radiator cap?? the cap is new practically and the radiator...replaced them in the summer, t-stat??. everytime i turn off my car and its at normal temp it will make the gurgling bubbling sound in the reservoir...when i drive 20 miles or so at once and i turn off my car i will look in my wheel well and see coolant leaking down from the reservoir...i have to constantly fill the reservoir too because of this just to have it all leak out again.
yea temp is perfectly fine. lets say if i drive from one side of town to the other...lets say 40 miles give or take, then yes, if i come to a stop light the needle will start creeping up. but it hasnt done it in a while tho.
check the smaller water hoses that run from the top of the IM to the TB... i had a few of those burst on me... does your upper radiator hose looks like i is swelling? that may indicate a BHG...
if it is a leak, you may have to pressure test the system...

First off, you are not filling it all the way are you? Because you want it to be about in the middle. If it is too high, it could over-flow since under heat excess fluid is put into the reservoir.
If the rad cap is new the only reason for coolant to bubble out is if it is over-pressurized. This can happen if you have a leaky head gasket. The rad cap holds pressure but if there is too much it will over-flow.

ok before i started my car up today for the 1st time i checked my coolant level and it was near the min mark. i squeezed my upper rad hose and it was empty. i drove to work which is about 18 miles and i went in and grabbed my check real quick and came back out and popped my hood. the reservoir was 95% full and the upper hose was solid but it seemed it was getting softer by the second is that normal? i pulled out the top the reservoir and stuck it back in and it bubbled a little bit when i put the tube part back in before i screwed it back on. i drove to the check cashing place about 10 miles down the freeway and came to a very long stop light and i saw the needle begin to creep but as soon as it turned green it went to norm again....i parked and immediately popped my hood..same thing...reservoir was full but was leaking out a little upper hose was solid but getting softer. drove home about another 10 miles down the freeway and had to come to a stop because of a school bus...after a while i noticed the needle begin to creep up...but once again as soon as i was able to go it went back to norm. is this jus air stuck in my system somewhere?? should i jus drain it and put new fluid and bleed the hell out of it?? has anybody had this kinda prob before?? im starting to get flash backs when my legend had a BHG...and it is the same engine as a legend.
i just drained the rad and put new coolant and bled the system. took it for a spin and its still bubbling in the reservoir. u can compare it to if u had a glass of water and u put a straw in it and started to blow into the straw. thats what my reservoir is doing...also the rad cap is making a leak sound. im guessing that might be the prob..im sure that cant b normal..im going to go buy a new cap right now.
If you did not replace the radiator cap, do this as this may be reason for overflow.
Make sure both cooling fans are running when AC is turned On. If one or both fans don't turn on, then overheating during an extended idle after highway driving is expected.
If you have a new radiator cap, fans are running, and it's still bubbling, a bad head gasket is likely.
good luck

Hello, I am new to this but my 97 which is my baby did the same thing. I ignored the situation until my radiator exploded. I had purchased a radiator with lifetime warranty so ordered a new one and also obtained a thermostat in the process. Once I removed the radiator and the thermostat, I noticed that the thermostat was the culprit. I put in a new thermostat and replaced the radiator and it runs now better than ever…..My suggestion is this-take the time to check the thermostat and replace it if it hasn’t been replaced in 10 years. Luchie..
just replaced the thermostat the other day actually.i tested the thermostat that was in it and it was fine but i put the new one anyway. still the same problem...im beginning to save money now for new HG's and all the other good stuff. fuckin sucks!!!!!!!
Ok , two things .... definitely replace the thermostat.
I have a 98 3.2 TL .One day I drove to my storage which is 1 mile away and I saw smoke coming from under my hood.
Upon opening the hood I saw the fluid boiling in the reservoir.Turned it of for a few minutes and when started again everything was fine. I do a lot of my own work but I have a honda expert who covers things beyond my knowledge. He replaced the thermostat and everything is fixed.
One more thing .... there is a bleeder nut that lets out air bubbles , when refilling the cooling system. It is usually right behind the area where the thermostat housing is. After filling the radiator with the proper mix of coolant / water, before replacing the cap , you loosen this nut and it allows air bubbles to escape.I have a civic and an accord ( my kids also own accords that I have installed radiators on and had to do this to release air bubbles )that I have changed many parts on , including several radiators. If this is not done when refilling , I believe you are finding out the result.I hope this helps.
