blower motor or RELAY

blower motor or RELAY
I have 96 TL3.2 the AC Fan blower not working or sometimes it does. When it doesn't I just knock my dashboard or knock underneath the glovebox close to the blower motor housing then it works. I was wondering if there is a relay underneath there? Looking at it, its a pain removing the blower motor. Any suggestion?

The relay's at the lower left part of the dash. If you're hitting the right side, it probably isn't the relay. I'd look at the connections to the blower and does it have brushes? Sorry I can't offer anymore ideas.

When blower motor restarts by thumping the lower dash or blower housing, the problem is worn carbon brushes that connect to the armature. When they are worn, the springs that load the brushes get loose and contact is weak. This will cause failure to start. When you thump the dash, they temporarily reseat and motor starts.
Only fix is to replace the motor, a pretty big task on the TL's.
good luck

I haven't done it, but it doesn't appear that you have to take much of the dash apart. My manual does say that you must remove the AC evaporator which means the refrigerant has to be drained.
The dashboard lower cover, knee bolster, and glove box have to be removed which may be a big deal?
If it were mine I'd attempt it, but I can have my car out of service for extended periods of time (my wife drives it lol).
