Alternator Failure w/o Charging Light

My 97 Acura 2.5TL has an alternator w/ no output and the charging light does not come on when engine is running. It is on w/ keyswitch in ON position, but goes off when engine is started. Only way to keep car going is to charge the battery.

Looking at the Acura shop manual wiring diagram the charging light ground simply goes to the voltage regulator, and there is no detail of internal circuitry of voltage regulator. I assume this means the voltage regulator has failed, but was interested whether others might have encountered this problem.

Regards

I have a voltage monitor and it's not putting out any voltage. Battery gradually discharges till no-start. I have a used part on order and will rebuild my own alternator.

thanks
