AC not working

Hi Guys,

My 97 3.2TL AC is not working this year. When I turned AC on, only warm air blew out and I saw condenser fan, radiator fan, and compressor were not working. I checked all relays and they all work even compressor clicked when I tested compressor relay. My car recently had Freon charged. Anyone has idea or has same problem with me? Anyone gives me detail how to have self climate control diagnostic test???

Please help

Did a professional charge the freon to the correct capacity/pressure?

To refill and empty system you need to run a vacuum pump on it first and make sure there are no more leaks- that freon went somewhere!

The service manual has the AC self-test instructions; you can find it in the FAQ section for 1st gens on thos fourms -link to a link at the bottom of the first page.

What does the guy who filled it say?
What are the low and hi side pressure readings
Did he add dye so you can take a blacklight and see the leak area?

yeah man, i had the same problem... the dumbasses that filled my freon didnt check for leaks, so my A/C will continue to blow warm air until i take it in for them to put in dye to find the leaks and get it fixed

^Kragen sells a kit for somewhere between $20-$40 so you can do it at home. Just follow the instructions on the card and you should be cool (no pun intended).

~Cheers~

Highest probability for source of your problem is a leak that allowed coolant to escape. When system pressure is low a pressure switch opens, disabling the compressor to protect against running w/o refrigerant which would damage the compressor.

A cheap refill kit will only add more refrigerant to be lost again. It may cool briefly, but system could be damaged if you've lost lubricant. Adding a charge to an empty system is asking for additional problems, such as compressor siezure due to inadequate lubricant.

Take car to someone who can 1) locate and repair the leak, and 2) correctly add lubricant, vacuum and recharge system, or 3) Buy a Haynes AC manual, an AC manifold gauge set, and learn how to do AC repair . That's what I did some 30 yrs ago and it's paid dividends over the years.

good luck

Thank for all your guy answer. When I turn on AC, neither both fan nor compress works, I used jumper wire to connect direct power to AC compressor clutch and turn AC on, I had cold air blown out. Previously, I brough my car to independence shop to charge my Freon, and inspected my AC system, they said probably climate control unit needs to replace or PCM. I myself also used 3.2 TL 97 and 2004 service mannual to diagnostic AC system, I think climate control unit bad. I called dealer to ask for price. It costs $1300 plus tax. Maybe I give up or wait until winter to trade to have another car.

Acura quoted me 1385.00 to start.
I took my car to an A/C shop and they fixed it for 334.xx
I saved over a grand. Turns out it was my condenser and two other items; nothing tp do with the compressor. Hope this helps.

just had a mobile AC fixer dude come out, vac & fill mine, says the expansion valve is stuck shut. Ordered one for $30 online but the service manual I have, table of contents shows all the HVAC stuff in ch22, my manual stops at ch15 Anyone seen ch22 anywhere? Need to see how to get to & replace the expansion valve!

Check car-part.com near your zipcode for a used Heater/AC Control. I saw them for <$50 at many locations.

good luck
