ABS Light

I have a 1996 2.5 TL. My ABS light is in due to a bad modulator. I do not plan to repair the problem due to the fact this car has allot of miles and I use it for commuting. I would like to know if theres a way to disconnect the ABS light. Thanks

Only ways I know to defeat the ABS light are 1) remove instrument panel and remove bulb, or 2) put a piece of black electrical tape over the ABS light. Don't laugh at the tape, my father did this on his Buick Park Avenue and it's suprising undetectable, and very simple.

Fixing the ABS is not a big deal. Used modulators are readily avialable (car-part.com) for <$100. If you obtain the code, I may be able to suggest a fix for your modulator.

good luck

Code 1-3 is High Pressure Leakage; leaking outlet valve, leaking relief valve, or poor contact in pressure switch circuit.

The valves are not accessible or repairable. I tried this on a 97 Acura CL (same modulator) and got nada for all my efforts. What you can do is search for external leaks. This modulator, on Accords, suffered from body plug leaks (9 plugs). Is the reservoir low of fluid? If you see evidence of fluiid leakage, this might be the problem. I have a TSB on Accords which will provide guidance on this repair.

Easiest fix may be to replace the modulator.

Use car-part.com to search for modulators near your zip code, and visit to inspect them, picking the best. Prices were as low as $50. Bargaining is sometimes useful.

good luck

No Leaks

I don't see any leaks. When I start the car I hear the ABS pump turn on and off for a few minutes and then it stops and the ABS light comes on. I went to HondaHookup for a manual but I didn't see any for my make and year (96 TL 2.5)

Modulator will try to pressurize the accumulator w/ hydraulic fluid. If leak prevents this, it keeps trying for a fixed time and then quits and sets ABS light on. Pressure switch should cut the pump off when pressure is reached, so either pressure switch is bad or an internal valve leak.

Get the 94-97 Accord manuals from hondahookup.com. The ABS modulator is identical, except your's is a mirror image on the pax side, where Accords are on the driver's side. All diagnostics and other info should be good.

Get the manual and go through the diagnostic for 1-3. This may confirm internal valve leak.

good luck
