97 3.2Tl

Hello everyone,

1st post, but been doing research for awhile.
My Fathers 97 TL 3.2 transmission failed last night while I was driving it. It felt like it popped out of gear, then came to a stop very fast, then it made very loud screeching noise if it was in anygear besides P or N.
We are just going to replace the transmission our selfs, But What other tranny bolts up fine with NO modifications?
Ive read through 13 pages 500 threads and havent found anything. Just a million threads about the rear mount. Sorry If I missed it somewhere but got tired of looking at threads about the rear tranny mount.lol

any help will be appreciated.

Welcome!

As far as I know only the 1996 - 1998 3.2 TL and 1996 - 2004 3.5 RL transmissions will fit. The RL is an almost perfect match, i believe there is a bolt or two that might not quite line up but I can't be certain.

Check car-part.com for transmissions near your zip code.

Also you'll see which cars are donors to your car. I've found this cross-over feature to be good.

good luck

The RL tranny won't hook up to the TL diff. The TL tranny goes onto the RL block, minus one bolt.

~Cheers~

Interesting info about it not hooking up to the differential. Do you recall specifically why?

I haven't taken it apart, so I'm curious

I tried it, haha. The RL diff also won't go onto the TL tranny. The output shaft should be different.

~Cheers~
