2.5TL Transmission Screen

I'm new to the site, but thought I'd say "thanks" for the tip on replacing the screen on the transmission. My tl has 144,000 on it and I thought the tranny was done, changed the screen on Friday and it is shifty super smooth compared to what it was. The downshift when accelerating can be a little clunky, but still much better than before. Definitely get a new screen, too. Once you pull it out, you'll see why.

Thanks.

I hope you changed the tranny fluid also. If you have never done it before, or it has been a long time, you should do the triple drain and refill, where you drain the fluid, put in (I'm pretty sure it is) 3 qts, drive for 5 minutes, drain, refill and drive again, then drain and refill again.

This is cheap insurance and will make a big difference. I had a 96 3.2TL and it was getting sluggish until they did this procedure.

I didn't do that, but I'll have to put it on the list. Do you use the spendy acura/honda fluid when doing the flush or just regular atf?

I only use the Acura ATF. Transmissions are very expensive and genuine fluid is not much more than the regular stuff.

I have an 04TL now and the fluid was really dark at 20,000 miles, so I got Acura to do the triple drain and refill just as a precaution, and so far everything is fine with my tranny.

Ron,

i didn't know you were a former 1st gen-er...

and if you see the difference in a triple drain and fill, the Legend guys are doing 4X and even 5X drain and fill in their cars... 250k miles plus and no probs...
