tail lights----> yay or nay?

im in the middle of messing around with my USDM tails. this is not the finished product but while im on my way to the finished product, im taking pics of what options, different looks, i have. the tails are not sealed yet as to why you still can see the glue. so is it a yay or a nay at this point in the process?

without flash...

with flash...

with diffusers taken out...

The darkened insides is a yay! Funny how I'm doing the same thing and we didn't even talk to each other about it, haha.

I had planned on an LED tail. The $600 price tag that came with it was the big no for me...

There was a member here who did that to our tail lights for about 30 bucks but you had to ship him your lights. This was like 4 yrs ago or so? he prob isn't around anymore.

Either way looks really cool.

What color is the car? That would factor into the decision I think. However, I don't know how well a clear bulb would look in the red/brake area when illuminated. If they made red bulbs it might could work.

I love LEDs but it would look odd because the LEDs would be in one centralized area -even if you have reflectors in there, the aftermarket LEDs never quite look as good as LEDs that come from the factory. Also, since these are brake lights you're dealing with, it would not be wise to compromise safety with something that doesn't light up as well as standard bulb.

yep, i oven baked them. since it was my 1st time oven baking any car part, i played it on the safe side and set the temp at 275* and left them in for a few mins, took them out and pried a lil here and there then put them back in. repeated that process for aound 45 mins to complete both tail lights. ive seen other boards say 250* for 10-15 mins, 300* for 10 mins. basically, the higher the temp, the shorter bake time.

if any of you guys attempt to try this and ruin your only set of tails, dont blame me! haha. i did this cuz i had my USDM tails thats been in storage for years.

oh and thanks for the compliment but im pretty sure im not going to be holding the title for long.

Not anymore, that is. I tried to get in touch with the guy who makes them last year, and my friend found out that you had to send him your tails to be retrofitted, and pay $600 plus shipping back. That's why when I went to Japan, I didn't bother looking him up.

~Cheers~
