I used the metal cutting disc. The 1" round disc. 1 disc for the 2 holes. I pre-drilled the corners so it was easier to cut. Dremel can not cut corners. Took me 10 minutes to do the cutting and grinding.

Just a word of advise, get a decent pair of side markers from ebay. A good set will be easier to install and would look great. Means get a set for ~ $35. I bought a set for $15 and it is ok, but would have preferred a better set.

I bought an OEM set for my Lexus, it was awesome! Cost me $40, well worth it.

Can you post some pics of the Lexus one if you have already installed them?

Just got my markers in the mail. Unfortunately I work every day until Thursday, so I doubt I'll have time to install them until then.

...or maybe a little earlier. Got my car up on jacks right now, front tires off. Taking a meal break. Having two modes of transport is great.

One side cut out, although not wired yet. I bought the $10 clear ones Mandy posted on page two, and now I see what she means about buying higher quality ones. I like how these ones look, and I couldn't find any better quality ones that looked the same. The main problem with these is that the bulb sits loosely in the socket(?), and it's hard to remove the socket from the housing itself.

1 key thing: SAFETY GLASSES! Lots and lots of sparks.

Template

Test fit, keeping in mind that cardboard has more flex than metal.

Back view. Can't say no to the honey nut O.

Template on the car. Measured the width of the front bumper piece and divided by 2 to get the middle (5.5inches). Then measured 2 inches above the middle, and that's where I placed the bottom right corner. I looked at picture of Inspires and that's pretty close.

Outline, then remove.

Apply tape.

Drill pilot holes. I kinda screwed up here. You'll find out why in a second.

Dremmel it out. Took me maybe 20-25 minutes. Then I filed it, which took about 5 minutes.

Pop the side marker in. Here's where I messed up with the pilot holes. I center-punched EXACTLY on the corners of the template. Even though I intentionally made the template too small, the holes are still visible just on the outside. You can only tell because this picture is so close. Three feet away it looks perfect.

More distant picture. It's close enough to being level that I can't tell by eye if it isn't. From the close up above to this picture below I flipped the marker around. Covered the holes better. The top right one is just barely visible, but you can't see any others.

That thing is in there tight, too. After fitting it I had to pry it off with a screwdriver (it has a little slot on the side so you can do just that).

Now to wire, and do the right side...

Looking good! Those are aftermarket based on the VW ones. I used to have the OEM VW/Audi ones on my 3G Accord.

~Cheers~

Makes sense. I specifically looked for Jetta ones but couldn't find any.

Here's a link to a short video (since I can't figure out how to embed it): http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v1...t=P8160049.flv

Great DIY! I am happy that someone has finally taken on this project! I have the identical markers installed on my CRV!

Nice work!

There's a ton of them on fleabay, just type in honda side markers...plenty to choose from.

Again get some worth $35 or so, they will be the better ones.

I really like my side repeaters...gives more visible turning to others....

Good luck!

I would have selected this if they were available then. This includes the wires, all you need is tap. I had to solder my wires. Buy these!!!

I kid you not, I did a forum member’s CRV at hondasuv. He was 40 miles away from me and he came one day and in 4 hours, he was off. He is an admin on that forum. He was nice to leave me a brand new dremel, mine took a dive a week before. He bought the markers, I provided all the wires, etc..

Sidenote: On my measurements, 5.5 inches was from the front of the little side bumper piece. That mark lined up with the furthest back corner of the template. So the template started at the middle of the side bumper piece (5.5), and then was forward from that point.

Tip: don't drill holes. They're not needed, and they're what I messed up on.
Also, cut quite a bit smaller than you think you need. You can always file the hole to make it bigger, but you can never make it smaller.

One more tip: the plastic tabs holding on the wheel well cover things (I don't know any terms ) are old and brittle. I think I broke every one I took off. I'll be buying like a pack of ten to replace them all.

Anyway, finished today.

I don't think that this would be possible to do at a meet, due to lack of tools and time but after you do this and if you are still interested in doing mine I'm sure we could work something out to meet up and do this.

Hope everything is ok with the car. Hopefully I'll see you at the Colt State Park Meet.

Have you changed your pulley and belts?

My car was making that kind of noise and it ended up being my crankshaft pulley. I bought it OEM for 254.32 shipped.

I could, but it's really a one-person job. It's just a matter of getting the courage to cut into your quarter panel.

^That is the only thing I am scared to do, cutting my fender. And I don't have any tools to get this job done like dremel and stuff.
