About the headers

Well they match perfectly I just have to make ajustments on the Y and weld the left upper part to it.....to much to explain and the room space not much, which isn't good because they are near the power steering lines and the A/C main line unlike like th legend there is 2 to 3 inches of more space....those headers will burn them up. I bought fire retardent sheet's including the heat wraps for the headers. Only one thing is that on the driver side the darn sheild protector gets stuck, I have to take the headers out first and pull it out, then take the protecting shield out after. While doing this at my shop I listened to the gut feeling and put the original back on....just in case, also I have to do smog haha forgot, I have a buddy who hooks it up but I know for sure those headers will push to much out.

for those who are considering the OBX headers, i highly recommend having them ceramic coated by a reputable shop. it will help your performance by keeping the heat in the exhaust stream rather than in your engine compartment, it will lessen the possibility that the headers will melt things they might come in contact with in the engine compartment, and the Legend OBX's have a reputation for cracking near the welds, so this will help shield the metal from getting so hot, which is one of the few defenses you have against cracking.

Soooo is all of this work worth it knowing you would have to remove them for smog every 2 yrs...???? I've seen the engine bay on the 3.2 and legend and well there isn't that much room in there so i know it must suck to do work in there. How much gain do u get from that header..???

In my 2.5 there isn't too much room either but its still a a FAT PAIN to take out because the whole header has to come out from under the car in one fat piece. I was considering making a set of headers for mine but is the power gain from it going to be worth it...??????

i have a 2000 tl and with the headers on i still have 3 inch clearance from the radiator to the actual header....in the rear part of the engine is another story and yeah the front is easy to install but as with everything to the rear of the engine is a bitch....that being said..i have a magnaflow highflow cat and pass inspection every year, plus this is my daily driver

actually, the Type II Legends have pre-cats in the downpipe section, before the Y-pipe, in addition to the cat under the floorboard. replacing the stock log manifolds and those pre-cats with the OBX's results in more room. i was worried about the space until i dropped my engine in there and realized how much easier it is to work without all the stock stuff in place. i did have to remove the heatshields attached to the firewall to make room, but with the ceramic coating on my OBX's and the Y-pipe, i don't think they are necessary.

Type I Legends don't have the pre-cats, and i don't know if 1G TL's do or not (i'm guessing not), so the space gain is probably not as significant. even so, the log manifolds and heat shields are pretty bulky, and the OBX's are an improvement over that.

many Legend owners have OBX's with either the stock cat or a high-flow, and i have not heard of anyone who's had trouble with smog tests, including people in CA. i don't think that is going to be a problem if the other systems in the car (particularly EGR, which is notorious for clogging on Legends) are maintained and functioning properly.

as for gains, the stock exhaust on Legends (and 1G TL's, i assume) is pretty restrictive, so anything that opens that up will show some HP gains. everything i've heard about the headers is that there is a noticeable improvement in power over the stock exhaust, particularly if you run 2.5" pipe all the way through and replace the cat with a Magnaflow or similar high-flow cat.
