what are these things on the map light on the overhead console?

they look like little speakers. what the hell are they for? anyone know?

also, i saw the "seek" button but when i push it, it scrolls through the stations and wont stop like a scan button should. so is this model radio capable of scanning?

I used to have one of these cars, and yes, those are speakers. Mine were broken and would crackle, so I disconnected them. You honestly can't tell that much of a difference.

The radio I wouldn't know, because I replaced it and never used that feature. I replaced it because I would have ripped the hair out of my chest if I saw CD-PE0 one more fucking time!

yes they're speakers and it must be because youngTL's were broken, but when i put an aftermarket head unit in, there was a huge difference in sound. (the speakers dont work without the stock radio)

also, for the seek button. if you hold it up and down for a second, you'll hear a beep and then let go and it will seek to the next available channel automatically.

That is .... INCORRECT!

Its a solar sensor. When the sun shines hard on the car, the sensor picks this up, and adjusts the climate control accordingly to compensate. Pretty slick stuff for a car that came out in 1995 (which itself is based on a car that came out in 1991!).

Right. The black spot sensor simply detects sunlight and will send cool air to cool the car before it heats up. Its smart

The small grill is the actual temperature sensor.

The midrange speakers next to the map lights are what make our cars sound systems sound so good. It "raises" the soundstage so the music doesnt sound like its coming from the lower parts of the doors but instead its "surround" sound.

IIRC there is a way to make them work correctly with an aftermarket headunit. However it takes a bit of work. Like you have to add resistors or something because the Ohms will be incorrect otherwise. I once found the thread that had all the info but I am too tired and lazy to do a search righ tnow.
