What do all the gears under the D4 do?
What do all the gears under the D4 do?
i was reading online for gas saving tips and they had a place in there which said
Use Overdrive Gears
When you use overdrive gearing, your car's engine speed goes down. This saves gas and reduces engine wear.
and basically i just wanted to know what those are on our cars, ive never really used anything below the d4 before, any info would be appreciated.......detailed information would be Greatly appreciated...thanks ppl.....1

You are doing the right thing
Leave it in drive and let it do its thing
Other gears are for accellerating
IF stuck in traffic, drop to 3rd gear, which allows the engine to use all the lower gears and stay out of overdrive, otherwise it will shift back and forth because of low speed

whats your take on O2 (oxygen sensors) and gas milage, because gas costs me on an average of $10 each day and on a 5-6day work week i'm getting screwed by the gas station all around my area, someone told me to go on ahead and replace my O2 sensor a while back because its making my ride really sluggish but with gas prices the way they fluctuate i cant really just go buy the O2 sensor because i dont know how much gas is gonna cost me the next week, basically what i'm asking is how much more gas can i save if i go get the O2 sensor, if it can cut my gas consumption in 1/2 then i'm gravy, but if it cant fuck it till i get paid........any help people

my advice is get a second vehicle as a daily driver if u can afford it. I drive my second vehicle during tha wk (burns alot less gas) and the TL on the weekend when im cruising around
If ur gonna get a second vehicle get u something that is in the range of 1.6L - 2.5L. Civic and 4cyl accords are good daily drivers.
D4: Use all four gears plus overdrive.
D3: Use first three gears.
2: Use only 2nd gear.
1: Use only first gear.
As you can see, 2 isn't the first two, but only the 2nd gear. Your best bet on saving gas is to get different rims. Lighter/narrower with a lower speed rated tyre will help. Lighter for rotating mass, narrower for drag, and not as sticky tire (high treadwear) for less rolling resistance. Obviously there are drawbacks to it, style, etc., but if you're really concerned about mileage, then this is the way to go.
~Cheers~
P.S. The DD thing works, but add up the cost of registration, insurance, etc. and it might end up costing more.

the other gears are there for your transmission. D3 stands for destruction 3, d2 stands for destruction 2, d1 stands for destruction 1.. Each is a setting where you can choose on how many days your tranny will last.
Acura added that option when they were watching cartoons while building all of the ua tl transmissions

Have the local parts place pull the codes on your car- it may show an O2 sensor bad or something else
