Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) location for 2.5 TL
I understand it is located somewhere near the oil filter area but I just can’t locate it.
If anyone can tell me where exactly to look for or take pic, I would really appreciate it.
I read a thread by TexasHonda about it but still can't pin point the exact location.
Thanks

This time I re-read TexasHonda's post slowly and carefully. I saw he mentioned that it's below the oil filter.
I will check that out when I get home.

My Honda mechanic could not figure it out and mentioned that transmission computer could be the issue.
He was sure it was electrical not the transmission itself.
So, I am changing out anything I can think of which is related to transmission.
I have a transmission control unit I just purchased from ebay, I am going to replace. If that fails, I will replace the VSS.
The transmission control unit is a bitch to get to under the dash.

well, the sparodic idle fluctuation and engine cutting off, sometimes erratic idling with CLE and D4 light flashing did not go away after replacing the TCU as suggested by my Honda mechanic.
Next thing I will be changing out is the VSS.
Do our 2.5 TL has TPS (Throttle positioning sensor)? If so, where is it located? I could not find it in the shop manual.
It's not the tranny itself.
Last week I removed the IACV and cleaned it.
I hate to get rid of the car knowing that when it runs, there is no tranny shifting problem nor any engine issue. It has to be an electrical problem I just can't figure out.
The ODB is not setting any code either.

Once, I noticed that the CLE and D4 lights keeps on flashing. If I turn off the car and back on, everything is back to normal.
This issue is so intermittent and never happens at the mechanic's place making it difficult to pin point.
Once driving down the interstate at 65+ mph, the check engine light flashed, car jerked and back to normal.
Two different mechanics told me after pulling the history of the OBD codes that it is electrical. They are very much certain it's not mechanical.
The distributor end housing, some sort of transmission solenoid were replaced.
Plugs and spark wires are not the issue. I cleaned the IACV, throttle plate and the intake.
I hate to get it rid of the car knowing it must be some kind of sensor or electrical connection.
I am affarid to drive it now.

I just took that sucker out today. It's literally under the oil filter a little to the right. Has a switch on top and one bolt holds the whole thing down with two power steering hoses. The actual VSS is mounted on top with two bolts.

Was this your fix? I'm also looking for the exact location and or a picture of what the actual OEM Vehicle Speed Sensor. I'm having no speedometer / odometer / trip counter and are being thrown codes pointing to the Vehicle Speed Sensor on my 1997 Acura 2.5 TL I would love any help!! been searching for a week on a confirm! Thanks!! ~Chris
Are the 1996 and 1997 V.S.S ( vehicle speed sensor ) locations the same?
