Transmission Going bad?

Hello,

I need a little help diagnosing the audible clunk that my car makes when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Right after the RPM's topout in first gear, my car will shift so the tachometer resets to between 1000 and 2000. Thats when I hear this single clunk. This occurs during normal driving not smashing the gas. Has anyone heard this before?

Thanks in advance.

It happened to me too. Change the transmission fluid. That should clear that up.

There's also a little filter in the trans that's pretty easy to get to. I'd replace that as well. Doing a drain & fill has helped many on here with trans issues...just don't do a flush.

top out rpm in 1st gear? are you redlining it?
be gentle on 2nd and 3rd and that will help preserve whats left of the clutches inside the trans

Maybe you gen1 can give the OP exact location of the filter screen to be cleaned?
Use ONLY HONDA atf

I am glad to hear that replacing my tranny fluid and filter should fix this. I appreciate your replies..

01tl4tl - Im not redlining my car... by topout, i mean the 1st gear reached the high end of its normal rpm range during normal acceleration just before it shifts to second and drops to between 1 and 2 thousand.

this used to happen to me all the time and still does...changed the fluid and it went away for a while but the clunk eventually came back. haven't changed the tranny filter, maybe that will fix it.
