Transmission

My question is how strong or I should say , How many miles can the 96 2.5tl transmission handle ? The car is about to reach 160,000 miles.

I find the Shifting pattern wierd so to speak . If i am climbing a hill and the car is in overdrive , it shifts from overdrive down to second ( not into reg.drive) , when it does this it feels as it takes a while ( slipping feeling into gear) and u can feel a hard jerk(thud) when it catches second gear. I had my mechanic check it said it is normal . Is this true? All the mounts are good . Or am I just use to the shiffting pattern of a lexus ( I could never feel the transmission shift at all) . Thanks

Partly age but partly by design.

Honda's automatic transmissions are unique in their construction. They dont use hydraulics nor planetary gears like 99% of automatics out there. Instead they are basically manual transmissions with a torque converter using stator force to change gears. Its a simple design, weighs less and is more efficient. The downside was a fairly crisp shift feel. Newer Honda automatics have improved software that smooths it out.

Try driving a late 80's Accord to feel a hard shifting automatic

Had both an '89 LXi and an '88 LXi and yes, they ARE pretty hard shifting!

If you have not had a fluch WITH the screen replaced, I'd do it right away.

I had a new trans. filter and a complete trans. flush done . The old fluide did not look that bad at all and the screen had very little dirt or build up on it . I Cant Really notice a difference in the shiffting , so I assume it is suppose to shift that way. Thanks for the replys once again ;o)
