Tire PSI

I have a 1996 2.5TL and I decided to put 35 psi in all 4 tires the other day. The car drives so much smoother. I put it up on a lift on Saturday because I thought something was wrong with the suspension and found nothing

How much do you guys put in your tires? I have the stock 15" wheels..

I also put 35 psi in the front and 33 psi in the back just because the rear of the car weighs a little less than the front. I do agree the car rolls much better!

Plus you will get better gas mileage with some overinflated tires. I got about 27mpg w/ 34psi all four tires and 95% highway driving.

Tire PSI's should differ depending on what you want to do with your tires ^_^

Balls to the wall traction?
Use the lowest recommend setting.

Gas mileage needs improvement?
Likely a setting below 40 PSI will help... makes the car feel like it's on rails though, but remember that the geometry of your traction patch becomes smaller when you do this...

Also depends on tires you are using. Normally though, whatever the recommended psi is on the vehicle would be the appropriate setting. Check your label for air tire pressure.

I put mine all up to 34-35 and gas mileage is greatly improved. Trying to beat 30mpg -- still at 29ish. Scangauge with TPS and MPG displayed is helping. Others on here have said that our older 1stGen TLs are geared pretty low (I agree this is true) and if you look at the HP and torque curves you can see that over about 2700ish RPMs (60ish MPH) you loose start to loose mileage. The scangauge confirms this. Tire pressure certainly helps - just watch the wear and keep rotating on normal interval.

I will brake the 30mpg ! I started a post on gas mileage and was hoping for a sticky, but no sticky.

I was at 36psi all around, but I'm currently at 32psi with nitrogen. Gas mileage is still good considering my treadwear rating of 220. Maybe I should get some harder tires, but grip is more important than saving a few dollars.

You have a 2.5 right, since my 3.2 is a bit above 2k rpm at 60.

BTW I averaged 27.08mpg on a trip to Toronto the other day, however I carried a ~300kg(660lbs) load, and driving at 75-80mph 95% highway. I'm sure that if I would of went with nothing in the car, driven slower, and driven only on the highway, then surely I would of gotten real close to 30.

I pumped a little over 3/4 tank of Chevron Supreme yesterday evening, drove two blocks to have dinner, drove my friend home, then drove home myself. A total trip of about 20 miles... My needle is now at the half mark. No racing, no revving, wasn't stuck in traffic, nothing that would cause accelerated fuel consumption except for the shitty gas itself. FUCK Chevron. I wasn't paying attention yesterday and out of habit pumped in $40, then realised that I only wanted to pump $10 here and another $40 at Shell. God damn it.

~Cheers~
