It must have been a typo or something, I have never heard of TCCS, but TCS is an option (I believe on only the 3.2)

Correct, the 3.2 TL with the premium package has TCS

Also the 1998 3.2 TL (which had no premium package) had TCS as its ONLY option

Haha, I like having the I5. It happened to me today on the highway (had to merge in from a dead stop) and I was like whoa, it's been a long time since I've done that.

I was thinking something was a little bit fishy there, completely forgot about the Type II swap.

hey guys.
Im just curious.
Can the TCS be put onto a 2.5 model?
I mean for instance, Is it something we can buy from a junkyard and hook it up?

Nope.. its meant to restrict the air intake of the 3.2 engine

Question Tcs

Another dumb question ffom Japan...Is the TCS on a switch? I mean can it be turned on and off? Or is it a permanent system? And what is that "box" on the intake pipe, behind the radiator( the extra air-cleaner box looking thing between the intake pipe and the radiator)? Is it a necessity? Can it be removed...or not a good idea? First of all,WHAT IS IT?

The TCS can be disabled, there is a switch for it next to the mirror controls on the left to the steering wheel.

No...you're getting it mixed up. VSA is Vehicle Stability Assist. VSA helps control the car if it is oversteering or understeering, plus traction control to keep the front wheels from spinning. TCS is Traction Control System, which in the 1st gen TL's, restricts airflow to the engine to keep the front wheels from spinning.

Believe me, I know exactly what VSA and TCS are. I know my Acura, and my Accord, inside and out - backwards and forwards. The question was directed at Ken because I believe he told me that he retrofitted VSA from an RL onto his 97 TL and that it was a lot of work. You'd have to add yaw and steering angle sensors and a lot of extra equipment to piggyback the ABS sensors, which are also TCS sensors.

Took it from a late model 1st generation RL

Basically i retrofitted a 4 channel ABS system and the VSA "box" which is behind the rear seat.

On = Prevents wheelspin and is sometimes useful for unknown road conditions

Off = If you know what you're doing and dont want any electronic nannying.

Its personal preference really. The TCS is quite tame compared to most others, especially Mercedes.

Cost me $1,000 for everything.. and it would probably cost double that unless you have connections.

At the time, I had a hookup thanks to a friend who was a Honda technician and a wrecked RL that was awaiting my experiments.

Basically the ABS system had to be completely removed and replaced, wheel sensors added in the rear (independent rather than the stock system that uses one channel for both wheels)

VSA's control box had to added and wired... I stayed away from doing the work myself, totally out of my field.

It works quite well and I'm wondering if anyone else out there has retrofitted such a system. I did it for a technical challenge (and my friend needed the money due to family issues).

What is that box?

Can somebody tell me what that box is between the intake pipe and the radiator? Looks like an extra air-cleaner...

If you have no TCS switch, you have no TCS. I'm also assuming you don't have a "TCS" light in the dash.

The switch is located beside your main cruise control button. If the button there say TCS, then you have traction control. Plus, you'll have a fog light switch beside your gear shifter along with the seat heater switches. If you don't have TCS, then the button beside your main cruise control switch is the fog light switch while depending on which model year, you'll probably have seat heater switches or nothing at all, not even dummy switches, beside the gear shifter.

I guess my Saber is the basic model...no heated seats,no buttons for anything by the shifter...no cruise control...only driver side power seat. All of my dummy switch covers I'll put my own switches for something like a police under cover visor lights I'll be receiving soon.

any more info on this would be awesome ken. Looking to do the retrofit on my 3.2. Labor is cheap for me since my best friends dad is a honda tech. Parts are probably what a difficult to get. A four channel abs modulator, rear sensor, hydraulic wiring, and a vsa box? anything else? and how hard is it to wire the vsa box into the vehicle - for example what does it connect to?

I think that was it.

The wiring was a pain from my understanding, it was put in the trunk right up against the seat (next to the ski pass through). I believe it connects to the ABS controller and possibly the engine management (the control boxes are in the front by the passenger's feet.
