It is normal for your valves to tick after awhile, when they do its time for a valve adjustment.

 

i hear my engine make tapping noises after i turn off my engine and i think it's cause it's cooling down? i have roughly the same amount of milage as you do and so far i haven't had it knock while driving.

are the tapping valves specially in 97 3.2tl one of the characteristics because I recently started to hear the tapping valves in my TL . I dont want to fix or get any engine treatments if this is normal . It has only 49,000 miles
