Its been a while since posted something on there.
Where do i start...Christmas day early morning...i was driving on the motorway (highway) then i heard a little bang, then the dash red lights come on and lost power and coasted to a stop, So i popped the hood to find that my alternator belt burst and cambelt as well...We all know what means 'bent valves' (££&$$) i got the car picked up and taken home (2 hour wait for recovery,thats very good on christmas morning).
My mechnic took the car in the garage and took off the cylinder head to find out it had bent valves which i knew....So he sent the head off to get pressure tested & skimmed and new valves put in. Now he has put it back to together again with new gaskets ETC....
Now we have problem Its making a Tapping/Knocking sound !!!

MY QUESTION TO YOU GUYS IS 'WHAT IS CAUSING THIS Tapping/Knocking Sound ??

I NEED YOUR ADVICE TO PUT THIS RIGHT !!

I will start where most other people would start; your mechanic didnt put everything back correctly. I would have your mchanic check it out again he most of not tightened something or even something could be very looting and is hitting something else causing that sound.

 

are you sure the valves that are bent were all replaced? sometimes its a bitch finding bent valves. A good way to check is to shine a bright flashlight at it and see if there is any light from the other side.

 

Yeh all the valves were replaced...I saw the new valves in the cylinder head and I have the old ones in a box

 

Could be something needs adjusting or tightening ?

 

Are you sure it's a knock? Could it be the lifters ticking away?

 

To me it sounds like knocking.

Sounds like they didn't get them adjusted correctly.
Perhaps the valve lash clearence is too great.
Hopefully a simple valve adjustment will fix it.

 

Wow something def wasn't installed properly because your car sounds like a tractor.

 

^^ yeah mine you cant even really hear... and why is that battery on the right? mine is on the left...

def sounds like rod knock to me... all the pistons looked cool when the head was off? did it sound like that right after the head was put back on or did it take a while?

 

It sounds like a single valve is very loose causing the tapping sound. Rod knock is a deeper, resonating unmistakable sound (thonk, thonk, thonk) that chills the heart.

It's sounded nice before my mishap happened on Xmas morning,
The pistons had very light markings semi circles...since the head has been back on it's been making that sound.
Gonna send it to another garage this week to get looked at. (just hoping they can fix it)

 

Check compression first. Its simple and you'll know exectly which cylinder have a problem. On the second place is to check a timing belt marking - If them not right - known problem that accompanys taping and clicking.

Intakes are 0.010-inch and exhausts are 0.012-inch.

WOW !!!
Is all done...running nice now..its purring like a BIG cat LOL !!
The mechanic said the valves were loose and needed adjusting & tightening.
Just need to take it on highway for a good sprint.

Next job is to tint the 2 front windows and put in a quality sound system in there !!
