strange shifting tranny 98 tl 2.5

When my 98 2.5 tl is cold. It seems to shift late with a bit of a jolt but as it warms up it shifts normal. Also when its warm the tranny seems to shift weird when turning left and and accelerating, like it's in too high of gear shifts down and up again quickly with a hesitation .Does not do this when turning right. Just had the screen a fluid changed not long ago.
Could it have been over filled ?
Is my tranny going fail?
What is the proper method of checking tranny fluid?

in my 97 2.5 there is a yellow dipstick on the back right side of the engine bay.. check fluid level that way.. i had my tranny flushed 10k ago and i was still shifting funny.. changing the differential fluid fixed my problem. real easy to do takes 15 minutes there are 2 diy's on how to do it.

its not necessarilly the tranasmission, mine has 185k and works fine.. try simple stuff first or do what i did aamco transmissions will check it out for free.. tell you if it has any problems and then deal with it accordingly.

yea dont listen to me, im just some dude that has replaced 5 of them and worked on that particular style of car for the last 10 years.

aamco will charge you 900 to rebuild that shit, or you can get one from a junk yard for 500. Just watch it when you take it there you youll get tagged a few hundred bucks for a diagnostic fee to tell you what ive already told you.

Mine is doing the same thing, well i haven't really noticed anything on turns but I'm thinking about doing a screen cleaning/and a drain and fill....hopefully that helps. Has it helped anyone else?

I would also check for transmission codes, even if D4 light is not blinking. Some trans codes don't set CEL.

Replace hydraulic pump inlet screen and ATF w/ Honda ATF Z-71. No garuntees, but may help.

good luck

Did you use Honda Transmission fluid? When was the last time you drained and filled?

Yes and tranny fluid and screen changed within 3 k.
I'm going to change trans axle gear oil and see if that helps.

Changed the transaxle fluid and it shifts allot smother.
Still seems to shift a little late when cold but shifts normal after a few blocks.
Is this normal?
If tranny is over filled or under filled would this be a symptom ?

How do you check tranny level ?
I have heard it is not like other makes.

Thanks

I have been told you don't check it like other cars (neutral and running)

Check fluid level warm and engine off. It should be at or near top of acceptable range marked on dipstick. If cold it should remain in acceptable range but lower.

good luck

Check level

see your manual. I do remember it was a bit different. I think it's

1. Park on level surface
2. Put car in PARK, leave it running
3. Check level

Colt, you may be right if it was a 3.2, your good with those. However, the flares in mine have always been due to an old screen or a high fluid level. Mine could still fail, but it started this behavior at 106,000 miles and it now has 136,000 miles. Last tranny drain and refill I again overfilled and problem returned until I put the right amount of fluid in. (10k miles ago).

SO while there may be other problems the right fluid level certianly helps.

Texas is right, the manual calls for the engine to be turned off.
