Starting problem, here we go :(

Alright, 1997 Acura 2.5tl 180,000 miles.

My car is starting rough. It is not the battery that is causing the problem, already cleaned and checked everything, I am good there. My dad and I seem to think it's not the starter or alternator since the car is turning over just fine. Changed the fuel filter and that wasn't it. It only starts hard the first start of the day, after that it is totally fine. We are thinking it is some sort of pressure thing, fuel pump, water pump, gas cap? Gas cap looks new, probably not the problem.

Also I tried pumping the gas while trying to start the car, that didn't do anything either.

Is anybody else having this? I have searched the forums and haven't found the exact same symptoms with a solution.

If someone could help me out that would be great....my car would be in perfect running condition, this is the last of the fixes that needed to be done to the car.

Again, I need a solution? Especially if it had happened to you since you would know the fix and if it worked or not.

Thanks so much AcuraZine community for reading my post.

Sorry, forgot to add that I also changed the plugs and wires, that didn't help either.

My dad had an older Camry with 200K on it with that problem. It was the Fuel Pressure Regulator causing the problem.

Okay, decided to take a video of the car starting issue this afternoon. It actually started on the first start for once! I was amazed, but it still did start a bit rough. The weather has been warmer the last few days and as a result it might be helping it start a bit better. I started it 3 times in this video, each one it progressively got better.

But, I still would like to get this fixed. If someone could help me that would be great.

Thank you for your time and input.

I'd lean towards the fuel pressure regulator also, but then again this is just going by what you typed up.

I think it's a possible bad fuel pump do you ever hear a humming sound or buzzing sound in the rear passenger of the car? I also thought fuel pressure regulator but found out later when car wouldn't start that it was definitely the fuel pump. How's the sound of fuel flow through the fuel filter pretty solid? From personal experience mine drove shitty til the pump went out. Also run some fuel injector cleaner but not the whole bottle as it say treats up to 14... gallons just use enough.

I've had numerous problems w/ distributor on 2.5TL. I suggest replacing cap and rotor and inspecting for any oil contamination inside distributor. Shaft seal can leak and contaminate distributor if drain path is obstructed.

good luck
