Spark plugs --- when to change it

I don't remember when was the last time I changed plugs in my 1997 TL 2.5.
I am planning to change them now.
My question is, what type should I use and how do I know how long different types of plugs are good for?

its in your manual and it also tells you how big the gap should be. I need to change mine out as well. never changed it out before.. question, how do spark plugs stick to the socket wrench when you unscrew it??

Your socket wrench should have a rubber insert that hold onto the spark plug so you can pull it out.

My question is, there are many different types of plug for my car, if I buy some expensive plugs, how often will that be good for. I don't see anywhre that tells me the intervals for changing plugs depending on plug types.

Good quality Platinum plugs will last about 120,000.

Copper ones will go about 30,000.

It's not a light, it's just a spinner that goes based off your mileage. A paper clip in the slot next to it will clear that up, . I had NSX plugs in mine up until the night before I left, now I have NGK Iridium IXs and they work a treat. The ones I got were for MKIV Supras with a colder heat range.

~Cheers~

use Denso Irridium and you'll be all set for awhile.

Spark plugs

I have 97 Acura 2.5 and the dealer just put plugs in for me for free under warranty at 75k. I don't drive very much, maybe 8k a year.

I asked about upgrading the plugs to Platinum or Iridium and I was told that the engine would not run properly? The car is running fine and I get 23 MPG around town.

Any comments out there on this?

Copper plugs have a bigger spark than platinum ones. For all out performance, copper does better.

The only benefit to using platinum plugs is the much longer service interval.

I am a jumper from the Gen 2 section but what has proven to work in our cars are

The NGK Iridium- the metal in them is a better conductor- therefor better spark means better burning and yada yada and longer life-
I dont believe the 100k between plug change our manual says- I have 70K miles and its ready for them

OR
The Denso Iridium -pretty much same as above- both the approved brand by Acura
similar price in the 6 to 8 bucks each range
Its all about Brand Loyalty
You will have to pry my NGKs from my cold dead hand

Installation tip
Use a little anti-sieze compund on the threads and a small piece of vac tubing slipped on the top of the plug can assist in guiding the plug into the hole
The anti sieze will protect the threads and make install simple

I use a torque wrench for spark plugs and oil plugs. Check your owners manual for spec

Man if I can just get my hands on a set of plugs made with Unobtainium
That stuff must be Awesome
But I can't seem to find any hmmmmmm
