something seems wrong

ok so heres the dealio .

i seafoamed the car about 2 days ago, just drained the atf and put a new screen in today. car was running like a champ for the first couple minutes, i couldnt even feel the car shift gears. but as i was driving to and from work, when my car shifts from 1-2, it would have a major lag. its as though i am stepping on the clutch and still gasing and take 1 second to shift it from 1st-2nd (sometimes its smooth sometimes its a major lag to shift). so basically the car would take FOREVER to shift from 1st-2nd, everything else shifts very smoothly.

and also before i drained the atf, the car would shift between 2500-2800 rpm, but now my car shifts around 1500 rpm, no idea if its normal or whatnot

does something sound wrong?

From what I hear with seafoam it either helps a lot or screws up a lot - VERY mixed reviews.

Normally gears shift depending how aggressively you accelerate. So with your normal driving it used to shift between 2.5-2.8k RPM but now that you have this weird 1-2 shifting problem you might be getting a little paranoid; therefore accelerating slower than usual and thus the gears shifting at a lower RPM. This is just my theory.

BTW, how many miles does your car have?

your tranny might be slipping. You have to make sure it is seated correctly. I opted for an aftermarket filter and thought mine was really smooth but it ended up slipping. I'd check your fluid level first though.

check the fluid level again... it has to be spot on... sometimes if you overfill the fluid, it will also slip like if you don't have enough fluid...

and wait - did you seafoam your tranny or the engine?

How are you checling the fluid?
The owners manual says to park the car on level ground, shut it off, and tgen check the fluid.
It doesnt say if the engine should be warm, which seems weird

ok so i just drained and filled again .. and it doesnt seem like it has got any better . the fluid level is inbetween the max and min line now and it runs the same .

i was just taking it for a test drive and put it in d1 to see if it would run correctly and after 2000 rpm it would just over rev and no longer pull the car . and when i put it in D4, when in 2nd gear it would downshift occasionally which causes it to overrev and go no where .

make sure of this before anything. It has to be 100% aligned with the hole and will sit in the hole with only the rubber oring without any bolts holding onto it. make sure it still sits snug when you tighten the 3 bolts holding the screen on.

You should check the hydraulic pump pressure (taps on external trans where pump pressure is measured), but I suspect you'll find it's very low.

Only reason I can think for such a sudden failure is somehow fluid is not being picked up. Did oring fit snugly into the inlet pipe? It should have an interference fit to seal. Perhaps a defective inlet screen?

good luck

maybe .

i found out yesterday from a buyer that the cluster's miles were rolled back in 2007 since it had 207k in 07 . my brother bought the car in 09 and cluster reads 138k so im guessing it shuold be around 250kish miles . so tranny failure doesnt seem that out of the blue anymore

yea, I don't see how a filter simple filter change could cause something like that if it was done correctly.

hah well alls done thats done . im going to get the previous owner's info from the dmv sometime later this week and tell them to pay up or go to court .

and also i asked the local shop that wanted to buy my car how much the car is worth (since they werent going to buy it anymore since it has about 250k miles) and they told me around 1200 since transmission is failing . im not gona sell it for that low so im gona just keep it and look for a new tranny since i have a friend who says he'll do it for dirt, will save up for a new motor while im at it just in case this one starts going bad
