So I got a new headunit...

Its a Kenwood CD/MP3/Sirius receiver. The satellite radio is BUILT-IN and the display is classy with KNOBS rather than buttons. Basically this headunit satisfied my picky requirements all in a single DIN package. VERY easy to install. Amazing..

As for the sound quality. I'd give it a 10 for CD's, 9.5 for MP3's and 8 for Sirius. Its better than on my '05 TL with XM (which I think is crap)

Now if only it could play DVD-A's

Not bad for $280.00

Very nice.

I always wondered why manufacturers didn't make a classy deck. This one is a big step in the right direction. Most of them look like control panels off of some starship.

Now for a flat black, burled wood one.

Ken,
That piece looks fantastic. I'm sick of trying to coax and cajole the original unit to play CDs. It plays CDs at its own whims and fancies, so I'm considering replacing mine with something like yours.
I've absolutely no idea about interfacing aftermarket head units with our speakers. Did you get a free mounting kit and wiring harness with this HU? Would installing a HU like this mean losing output from the dome speakers? I'd read in another post that to retain the dome speakers, one would have to splice the wire and add a resistor to the ones going to the dome speakers to rstrict input to the dome speakers to 4ohms. Is there a harness available to take care of this?
Thanks.

big

THe only "low-key" classy unit I've seen is a Nakamichi. Like wackjum said, the mainstream ones seem to cater to the 16yr old we-love-flashy-lights crowd.

Flat black, burled wood one ....

Yes, free mounting kit and wiring harness. I bought it from Crutchfield.

Normally you're correct, you lose the dome speakers. But with resistors you CAN splice it. Someone else will hopefully chime in on this I'll hook up the speakers once i get some proper instructions on this
