Should I go to Meineke to get my timing belt done?
I was calling around and one of the cheapest place to get my timing belt service done was Meineke for $550. This includes water pump, timing belt, crank pulley seals? but I'm not sure if it includes the powersteering and alternator belt. The AC belt on mines look fine...it's the alternator belt that I'm really really worried about...looks like it can snap anytime. The middle teeth on it has a 4 inch chunk missing.
There's this small repair shop that would do everything for $575. And another independent place would do it for $730. Acura wants $875 and Honda wants $860. Midas quoted $620.
So what are your opinions? Should I go to an independent place or a franchise or the dealership?

the ONLY good thing about having it a dealer is that workmanship is warranted for 1 year. any other place, maybe they do, maybe not, but the dealer does for sure. so if anything they work on breaks, blows, melts, etc....all free to fix. quasi hard choice, but ya never know.
i had mine done at the dealer..sux to pay it, but sometimes you have to take one where you don't want it. that's why you only have to do it once every several thousand miles

Most of the places including the dealer would charge between $650.00 to $750.00. I recently got mine done at the dealer. I paid $723.00. It took them 4 days, they broke some parts, fixed it and also gave me a loaner for 4 days. Because of the trouble, they gave me a $50.00 for any future work.
For the timing belt, I prefer the dealer, for most of any othre works , any other good place would do.

just recently did timing belt, water pump, etc at 95k. done by family friend who works for acura. he told me timing belt anywere from 90-100,000 and tune up around 105 because the plugs are platinum. overall he said the first generations are built with quality and if you keep up on maintnance they'll run for a long long time and hold decent value. hes seen them up at 280,000 , his daughter sold hers at 205,000 and still got $3700

For this type of work, you need a clean 1 year warranty. Go and bite the bullet and let the Dealer do it. If you do not have a friend who works for a Honda or Acura dealer.
Save yourself some headache.
