Shift lock...

I know my Accord had one, and I knew how to use it. So in our TL's, how does it exactly work?

by the shiftplate, i don't know if this is for the 2g but its for the 3g TL's. you flip off that little plastic piece with a butter knife, and put the key in.

Our TL's have a visable key hole next to the shifer... Stick your key in down until it pushes the little lever at the bottom... you can use something flat too as long as it pushes down the lever inside... while pushed down you can move the shifter into any gear...

Say your car doesn't turn on and you want to move it into the garage... Put your key in there... pop it in neutral... and PUSH the car in... I think you might need the key in the ignition too to unlock the steering wheel after you put the shifter in neutral...

Another example is if the shifter is in your way when installing your Aftermarket Receiver and or you are cleaning under the center console...

That's one part of the shift lock. Another part is your brake sensor. You know when you try to shift out of park in your Accord, you have to push the brakes then push the tranny button to shift out of park, right? Well, our TL's are a little different since we're using a gated shifter. In our TL's, when you hold the brake down, you can hear a little click at the tranny. That releases the lock. Then all you have to do is to pull the shifter out of park.

Haha. So is this in anyway a good theft prevention? So if someone hot wired my car, could they shift it or would they need the key?

They could still take it... like wolfpackbill said... all they'd have to do is have the car on and push the break down... unless you rigged the sensor bill was talking about so you had to have the key... wouldn't know how to do that... kind of like a kill switch... flip it and the sensor can sense the break... flip it so it does't...
