Question Shell V-Power ... thoughts.

Now you have to understand the history of my car... my mom bought It bearly used from an Acura dealership a while ago. She almost never put premium in it...always regular... but, on the other hand, when she would drive it, the rpms would almost never go over 3000 (she dosent really speed). Then I got the car at about 103k Miles on it. Normally, Id put some cheap freestate premium in my car. But 2 weeks later, I thought Id try the new v-power gas from shell. It says it has 5 times the amount of cleaning stuff in it than government requires, I figured i Would need that cleaning stuff in my car due to the fuel-abuse from my mom, haha. I can sorta feel a difference between v-power and normal premium, I can notice a MASSIVE difference between regular and premium...so my question here is...

Does anyboy else use v-power? Would anyone reccomend it? Does it do anything else? What are your thoughts on v-power? Is it worth the money?

Thanks in advance for your feedback and time.

Shell V-Power... Chevron Supreme with Techron... 76 High Performance...

All 91 octane... doesn't do anything different...

But yes... if you are going to go to shell... us the V-Power... its would be like going to chevron and getting supreme... or going to 76 and getting High Performance... etc... Although sometimes I'll put gas from one station and it'll give me better gas mileage then the other... and it varies every time i fill up...

Shell and a few other brands are approved by Honda/GM and Toyota if i remember correctly for their various cleaning detergents.

91 octane? Im probabbly wrong but dosent the number "93" mean that the octane rating is "93" because thats what I put... I didnt know chevron had the same type of stuff, I always thought Chevron was cheeap.

Premium ranges from 91 to 94 octane, depending on your location.. usually altitude is a big factor.

I always pump V-Power and never settle for less. 1) I notice the smooth gear change when using v-power. 2) Like many other says, they have cleaning solution in the gas. 3) I rather lose a couple bucks to keep the life of my engine than having pay a huge amount to fix/clean out the engine if something goes wrong. Hope this help.

I've always used Shell premium, even before they made their premium "V-Power." I didn't notice much of a difference. 93 octane here in Houston.

I use Shell mainly because their service stations are usually the cleanest and most well lit, and they always have windshield washing solution.

If Honda, Toyota, BMW, and GM approve these gas companies... then they're obviously worth a look. Go to the retailers section to see which stations are approved.

I always used Mobil's regular (87) on my 3.2 TL-P and got ~16.7 MPG (winter time). I decided to try their Premium (93) and noticed a small difference, increased to ~17.2 (again, winter time) but no increase in performance. I wasn't too happy with the results so I just went back to 87. After a while, I heard about Shell's V-Power from a friend who said he actually noticed better gas mileage in his 92 Suburban.

I tried it and (believe it or not) felt a bit more power in the lower RPM range (before the valve thing opens up in the 3000 RPM range). I though I was fooling myself until my brother drove it and asked if I had done some maintainence on it since the last time he drove it (which was a week before I put in V-power) as the car felt much more refined.

I can't prove the more power claim but my gas mileage improve significantly.. I average around 19 MPG and it's summer and I use A/C.

I recently did a road trip twice on the same route, similar driving conditions, similar speeds and similar weather. A/C was on auto.. I did the

Just for shits and giggles..

23.4 mpg using regular Shell gas

27.6 mpg using premium Shell gas

Now.. I did trip using premium FIRST, so it has nothing to do with the engine warming up or what not. I used the A/C on full auto at 72 degrees on both trips.

Per mile its cheaper for me to use Premium.

The engine "learns" what the fuel octane is and will compensate. On the newer Honda motors, the engine learns within only a few minutes.

hi,
I think I remembered sonething. Before Shell introduced their V-power scheme, I remembered their premium gas had an octane of 93. Now comes the V-power, and the octane is still at 93. WTF? The octane is still the same. The only difference they claim is the cleaning thing. IM very skeptic about that one.

octane is still octane, but the chemistry behind the gasoline can change.

Improved doesn't always mean higher octane. Infact, running higher octane for a car that doesn't need it may even reduce output.

I guess v-power can be the equivalent to motor oil. The motor oil can be improved, but the weight can still stay the same.

I been wanting to use V-power for quite some time, but here in AZ it cost $2.71 a gallon, that a lot coming from a college student. But I do notice a different in performance when I use 87 octane compare to 91. When I fill up with the high octane I do get better mileage, but cost more, but when filled up with lower octane, it's cheaper but horrible mileage. So either way I lose money, but I usually filled up at cheveron or quicktrip, maybe I should start using shell more.

In the long run, consider this... now matter the price of gas, there's always a $.20 difference between regular and premium. With Premium, you'll get ~2 more miles to the gallon...

So, for every ten gallons of gas it's only $2 more for premium. And you get 2 miles more per gallon so those $2 will take you an extra 20 miles, which isn't bad at all.

In my experience with the C32 motor, it is cheaper per mile to use premium gas.

NO!!! the good ol days was when 91 was $0.91... and 87 was $0.87... and 89 was $0.89...

I remember when my dad use to have me fill up his truck for him... a decade and a half ago... those were the good ol days... trippled since then

Then again... "ethyl" use to be cheaper before those days... wouldn't it be great to have those prices...

I been filling up lately with the shell 91 v-power and its the best gas to get for my 3.2. When I tried others like cheveron 91, I don't get the same good gas milege. With the 91 from shell, I can get an extra 50 or more miles. Also recently driving to the grand canyon, gas was like 2.90 on the way there, it cost me like 15 bucks for a few gallons!
