replacing rear brakes
The brake caliper piston- aka - the pot-
did you ease it back with above mentioned clamp and old brake pad
or the actual tool that pushed the piston back evenly?
Go to auto parts store and ask to borrow or buy the 8$ tool needed

hello.
Yes, a vise grip.
Unlilke the front caliper, for the rear caliper, you twist the thing clock wise or counter clock wise to pull the caliper in and out. I forgot.
AutoZone sells a tool that looks like a cube. I used it and cant get any leverage off of it. So, Im using is as a door stop, it works great.
The vise grip gives me better leverage. But before you clamp, put a cloth over the parts first so it doesnt scatch the part.
Oh, another thing. Never bleed your brakes for our cars.
dont trust anybody except the dealer for this task. its important.
goodluck.
Is there a special tool that you need?

Why do you say to never bleed the brakes and only let the dealer do it? I have the Mitchell manual and seems just like any other brake bleeding procedure.
Old brake pads 97 3.2
Hey guys,
Next time you replace pads, would you mind sending me (Toronto) the used inside pad if it's in very good condition? Or alternatively, if you're changing rear pads, I have a nearly complete set that I can offer you. I could try to get one used pad from dealer but that's a long shot.
You see I have a complete set of rear pads except for one inside pad. I had a problem with the sliders so one pad was wearing unevenly while the other three are nearly new. I want to complete the set and hang on to it for the next rear brake job which will be many years away. I guess the alternative is to make them available for sale to anyone who can use them.
Actually, it was squeaking bad so I got an estimate from Canadian Tire which is close by and they tried to rob me of nearly $300 for new pads but also said needed new rotors which happened to be perfect. Also wanted to charge an extra $50 for the "slide servicing" to get the rust off, grease it up which mech would have to do anyway. Sometimes I get a kick from watching these guys try to work me but it's sad that they work everybody like this and get away with it often.
