Reading Fault Codes
Anyone here know which pins to short out to read Fault Codes?
Our cars allows a simple short of leads which causes the check engine light to blink showing fault codes that was stored in memory.
I have the codes but I am not sure which leads to short to trigger the TL 1998 3.2 to display them.
Trouble Code
0 Faulty ECM
1 Left HO2 Sensor
2 Right HO2 Sensor
3 Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP)
4 Crankshaft Position Sensor (CKP)
5 Same as 3
6 Coolant Temp
7 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
9 No. 1 Cylinder Position (CYP)
10 Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor
12 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)
13 Barometric Pressure
14 Idle Air Control (IAC) valve
15 Ignition output signal
16 Fuel injector
17 Vehicle Speed sensor (VSS)
18 Ignition timing adjuster
23 Left knock sensor
35 Traction control system
36 Same as 35
41 Left Oxygen sensor heater
42 Right Oxygen sensor heater
43 Left fuel supply system
44 Right fuel supply system
45 Left fuel metering
46 Right fuel metering
53 Right knock sensor
54 Crankshaft position 2 (CKP sensor)
59 Cylinder position 2 (CYL or CYP sensor)
The light will blink a longer blink to represent the first digit of a two digit code.
i.e. 1 long blink then 2 short = Code 12 (EGR fault)
or 2 long blinks = Code 2 Right Oxygen sensor, heater

haha stop messin with your car, unless it's already blinking.....i wouldn't mess around with it cause you might actually mess something up. i think they have a tool for that kinda stuff, so maybe if you're lucky you can jack one from your acura dealer.

if there is a pause longer that's in between the 6 long blinks then it could be 2 codes...
i.e. 4 long then 2 long and 3 short.
Then you would have code 4 then code 23 since there isn't a code 63
I took unx's comment and picked up a OBD II reader instead. I think PepBoys will read Fault Codes for you for Free now.

I live in downtown Los Angeles... if you swing over I'll read it for you since I have a OBD II.
my email is mola@acuratips.com
had this problem too.... disconnected battery (twice because it happened again to me twice) after that it went away.
engine check light never came back on after second battery disconnection.
hope that helps...

the maintenence required box changes with the amount of miles you've driven the reason that is green is probably because it was check out before it was sold.. that is just a routine maintanance thing when it turns read you take it in they check everything and reset it
