"Problems" with our car

I was just looking on the internet trying to find information about the first generation TLs. I wanted to know the reliablity of our cars since i intend to drive mine(96 2.5,120Kmiles) until the wheel falls off . This is what I found on MSN as being a common problem with our engines.

how many of you have experienced this "common" engine problem??

i've never expierenced those problems and i have 140,000 miles. do the regular maintenence, dont pretend like it's a race car, and it should last you for awhile.

I agree. I drove my car for 207K miles before it was totaled and it would still be running today if not for that. I never experienced those issues either.

Yeah if you search thru the forum well you'll see that the EGR cleaning is detailed so that you dont have to spend over $500 just for someone to play with your car, i personally havent experienced it yet but some people have experienced it, if you take care of the car it'll take care of you, did u see my post in the reviews section on msn i read that before i bought my car and posted it when i got mine

EGR is indeed a problem.

Brake system - Since most people here PROBABLY replace their fluid (right?) that should not be a problem.

hard shifting.

as far as i know it's an extremely common problem that is caused by shot engine mounts and the fact that most people forget to change their tranny fluid before it's too late

Surprisingly the article does not mention cracked exhaust manifolds. That thing is a biatch to pay for. The emissions warranty covers some TLs but doesn't cover all first gen TLs.

The OP should/could have put this in the Common Problems Thread. I hope this does not become a duplicate as there could be some decent info that is duplicated...

I've heard about this TL problem a while ago, but do check a few more sources and don't let MSN alone convince you.

Never had those problems.
Use the car as a race car.
Hit 236,500 on original motor/tranny before spinning a bearing due to a seeping head-gasket from overheating with a broken radiator.

~Cheers~

P.S. Don't expect the tranny to hold up with 250WHP, though, as the torque converter will take a crap.
