New to the forums

Hello
Decided to introduce myself here.
I am finishing up my build on a 92 Vigor and i wish i had known of this forum during the process. The motor came from a 97 TL and now i know the motor inside and out.
Hopefully i can answer some questions when they come up or maybe you can answer some of mine.

Yeah, I have a question. I have a 2.5 TL (the same 5 banger as the vigor engine) makes this noise when I accelerate. It gets louder as I go faster and the sound never goes away. It has been this way for about a year. Is it the belt?

what kind of noise are you hearing?
Is it a vibration wobble, a metallic noise? maybe a squeak? a grind?

A timing belt shouldnt give an audible signal of wear. Depending on your mileage you should probably have it done if it is a cause of concern.
I got my car for $600 because... yep, the timing belt snapped.

Welcome!

TLB if it's a dull knocking sound, it's something to be afraid of.

No knocking. I've never heard a knocking before in a car, ever. If that was the case, id assume it would be a tranny going out or id seek a priest for an exorcism.

The noise I hear is a whining noise. It whines or hums loudly as I go faster. I hate honda engines! All my fam have hondas/acuras and they all make funny sounds at around 100k. We have 3 other toyotas, one knocking on 100k and the other two are over 185k with never ever having prob with the engine. Next car will have a toyota engine

^ Haha, if you're going for a Toy Yoda, the motor had better be one of the following:

1JZ-GTE
2JZ-GTE
1UZ-FE

Follow me and get the last one!! Celsior FTMFW!

^^ Oh, BTW, the G20/G25 wasn't even a Honda motor, so I don't think it counts...

really? What brand motor is it? The label on the engine says honda motor..? It got peeled off for some reason. Brought it to the mechanics and came back peeled naked.

how can you say the G20 and G25 motors arent honda?
honda was originally developing a DOHC variant of the G25 to put in the S2000 but it just proved to large.

^ From what I remember, they got the design from another automaker. Think about what you just posted, though. Just because they got it from someone else, doesn't mean they couldn't try and improve on it, or modify it right? I mean, look at what WE are doing to our cars. Did we develop the cars ourselves? Yet we look to improve upon them do we not?

~Cheers~

volvo never made a motor like the acura 5 cylinder. Just because an I-5 had been done doesnt mean that Acura took their design. Honda actually used an inline 5 motor for a racing motorcycle in 1966 http://www.vf750fd.com/Joep_Kortekaas/1966.html#RC149
The G20 has been in a Honda Sedan since 1989, and if honda used another company's design they would surely have fixed many of the flaws that we see in the G-series.
Poor oil pickup design, half-shaft through an oil pan, no harmonic balance shaft.
Sorry if I seem aggressive, i have just researched the motor a lot already.

Welcome to the boards. I also own a vigor. Do you have a 5 spd or automatic? There's not many aftermarket parts for the vigor but i love it. I've got the manual and its very fast.

Great price on tha vigor!! Hows tha body? Im getting some rust around the doors and in the trunk....other than that the engine runs great. I had the tierod end replaced recently (it snapped on me).

The body is almost perfect, a couple dings and the clearcoat is peeling on the top, It needs some new leather too but everything is mechanically working at this point. Ive got some CL optional wheels to go on there and when they do i will do a photo session. Expect the pics up over at honda tech.
