Miss my '96
Around two years ago, I sold my 1996 3.2 TL Premium. Man do I miss that car. I sold it to pay for part of my 2006 TL. I should have just kept it as a second car! I wouldn't trade the 06 for the 96, but I would love to have it back. The 96 handled so much better on corners than the newer car, and the ride was better, but the 06 is 10x quieter, faster, and get way better gas mileage. Plus it has nav and voice commands!
I still see my old TL driving around from time to time, and I am tempted to go run the new owners down and beg for it back! But since I sold it, I bought a 1973 Mercedes 280 and a second car, and having a third would do me no good
I guess this is just to let you gen-one owners know what you've got! Great cars!

Great post, this makes me feel good about joining the 1st generation owners "club"! This is a perfect third car for us...my wife and I taking turns driving it depending on the need. I use it to get to the train station (sparing my 2005 325ci from the harsh winter) and my wife will drive it to work (sparing her 2011 Highlander the miles). You are right about the gas mileage though... our car is a bit thirsty. Your newer TL sounds like a real prize!

I miss my '97 TL as well but I simply did not have the space for FOUR cars. Three is a tight squeeze as it is.

To be honest with you i dont think there is a differnace.... i replaced mine cuz my tranny oil pump went out and then my tranny took a dump.... Main reason i went with a jdm tranny was beacuse there motors and trannys are alway low millage like 30 to 50k miles on them... Were as the ones i found here in the US had 150k 170k miles.... And sence i have no intentions in selling my car i might as well get an awsome tranny for it...

My dad currently drives the TL, and it is really starting to show its age now. The car still runs and drives great, but the driver seat is torn and the paint is starting to oxidize.

It's true. I regret selling my first modified car. My first modified car was a 1993 honda accord, and I bought a 98 SC300 and sold the accord because I didn't have the space. I love the SC and I'll probably never sell it, but at the same time I really miss the accord because it was the car I took apart completely to fix. I really miss how nimble the car was. It was so fun and easy to drive around corners. Newer cars are so much heavier now the experience isn't the same, but new cars are a lot faster.

Cars are cars....when I'm no longer interested in one or it has oulived it's usefulness, I get rid of it. I've owned either 56 or 57 (not sure) cars in my lifetime. That doesn't even count the ones that were my wife's vehicles. I have no problem moving on....but that's just me.

Realistically the Type II manifold doesn't hurt torque. The true Type II engines have different valves that affect torque and engine swirl.
