Misfiring problem when moist

Hey guys, just seeing if anyone else had this problem. When it rains all day and it's very moist and humid sometimes my car starts misfiring when I first start it. Shortly after that the check engine starts to blink so I obviously pull over instantly and shut the car off for about 1 minute. I start it back up, check engine stays lit; good sign. I give it some gas and it stops misfiring and drives normal. This is the second time this happened and the first time the check engine light went off after about a week on its own....anyone have any clues? I think the first place I'll check are the plug wires..

Go to Autozone and get the CEL read. They will tell you what to check for.

Flashing CEL and rough engine usually means engine miss. Likely reason is shorts in the spark plug leads, or possible cylinder head gasket leaking water into cylinder head (less likely but possible). I mention the head gasket because I had similar symptoms on my 94 Accord EX.

Get AZ to extract the code to be sure.

A good check of spark plug leads is to spray them w/ water at night w/ lights off. If you see sparks jumping around, you need new spark plug leads or possible distributor cap/rotor.

good luck

Thanks, I haven't had time to get it scanned and probably won't. I'm leaving on a trip on Wed so I guess I hope the lights will still be on when I get back.. I hope it's the wires...

If it's something serious, I guess I'll be upgrading to a 3G TL much sooner than expected

Mine did the same thing. It was a crack in the distributor cap. Take it to the dealer and check to see if the emissions warranty is still open. I got a free tune up and a free oil change. Do a search on here for emissions warranty. How many miles?

Emissions warranty ended at 150K...They had to give these long warranties in order to get the car to sell in the US. I'm at 233,850 Too late for that

first of all I'd chek distributor cover. Common problem if cover is old - water comes inside and fuses.

Check engine came off on its own so I can't read the code. I was hoping it'd be on when I got back from my trip and it wasn't; I guess I'll check the distributor since everyone says it's a common issue.

Thanks
