Manual Transmission?

I can't seem to find a straight answer to this question, "Is there a manual transmission for the first generation Acura TLs?"

I read one place that there is but I'm not sure, and I'm sure you guys know. Maybe in Japan they did?

~Thanks

i don't think any of the 1st gens had manual transmissions in them. but i'm pretty sure you can convert it to a manual if you really wanted to. not sure about the japanese models though

from what i've heard (unconfirmed rumor) if you have a 3.2 you can swap in a legend manual tranny...
that's prolly with a whole lot of work

So I'm just wondering.....does anybody here on the forums drive a manual tranny in a first generation TL?.... It seems from the replies that no actual manual tranny was made for the TLs then......

I'm asking this because well, I know the TL ain't much of a race car but I thought it might be more worthwhile to drive the car if it was standard, instead of an automatic.

I guess it isn't really worth it to change to manual transmission since the TL is more for luxury and aesthetic appeal right? I guess it just wasn't really meant for motor performance....turbo would be nice haha

yeah turbo would be awesome.. I just want a smoother ride.. I dunno if its just mine but the throttle is really touchy.. one second your not going anywhere the next second your haulin ass.. I just want a smooth accel.. and yeah manual probably wouldn't be worth it.. I have always wanted to put a bigger engine in it haha like put a 300zx tt engine in it and make it go fast thated be awesome

In the US there were no 1st Gen's made with a manual transmission. However, in Japan, the 1st Gen Inspire/Saber's did get a 5 sp manual tranny, but only for the 2.5 5 cyl. I have a cousin that lives in Japan and has a 1st Gen Inspire. He swapped out the motor for a Series II Legend engine (3.2L 230hp) along with the 6 sp manual tranny. According to him, it is great and performs even better than the new Type S!

i want to put in 5 speed in my car but it will be to much of a hassel to find the tranny and the center console, etc. Maybe i would do it if i was thinking of keeping my car for a long time....

too much time and money for not enough return. Our cars werent meant to go fast like that. you wanna go fast? save the 3-4 grand it woulda taken to do the job, sell your car, and put all that down on a used TL-S or a used GS400.... then you can go fast and you've borrowed only 9-15 grand
