Keyless entry (again)

I am a recent owner of '97 2.5 TL and my hello to all fellow owners. Since I am new on this forum and new to the Acura's, please pardon my ignorance.
The '97. 2.5 TL I puschased did not come with any keyless entry remote which led me to believe that it does not have one. However, when I registered on Acura's Owner Link website (http://www.ahm-ownerlink.com) and went to "My TL" link, amongst other features it listed keyless entry as one.

Is there a way to tell whether or not this car has one pre-installed?

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

whoever sold the car to you just lost the remote control for the key. you can get a new one from the dealer, but they are pretty expensive, like $80 or something.

Thanks for the information.

Recently I had to get CV boots done and went to the dealership and asked them again about the keyless entry. This time around the service rep said that they looked to see if the actual keyless unit exists in the car or not and confirmed that it does! Incidentally though I will be charged $90 for removing the unit to get its serial number and another $85 to order the fob. I didn't go for it (yet).
My question to you learned ones: Can someone tell me where is the unit installed so I can get the serial# myself and save $90?

The fobs cost 30 bucks according to Kenwood There might be a shipping cost on top of that to Acura, but just know that its not 85 bucks.

As for the unit itself, I do not know. Its not in any of my books or PDF's.

None. Kenwood only sells them through Acura dealers.

Problem is.. the Kenwood fobs are not programmable, they are dependent on the control unit.

Completely different system unfortunately. Heck, the 5 and 6 cylinder TL's have completely different setups.

hmmm.. so much for trying to keep OEM features i guess, considering the price differential, might as well get an aftermarket until.

thank you all for your time.

Thats my recommendation

You can even get an install that'll open your trunk remotely.

Keyless entry

Hi, I am a new 1998 3.2 TL owner with a 2nd generation keyless remote. Can it be programmed for my system and if so, how do I do it. Must also get the code for my radio system by removing it to get the serial #. One dealer said they would do it for free, but another charges $80. Will appreciate any help. Dealer has a keyless remote for my system for $65 and will program it for free. Thank you.

Yes...

BUT, you would need a solenoid in the trunk to physically release the latch.

Ummm a solenoid is just a fancy name for coil of wire. Its magnetized. So you connect it to an electrical source and it'll physically move the trunk latch.

Almost any decent alarm/remote shop can do it for you.

Yes, it can be done physically. I just dont know how much it'll cost. It'll probably require some work.

You should be able to just get a remote and have it programmed.
I've never heard of removing the unit for a serial # to program a factory remote.
The dealer may be trying to get money from you.
If you get a remote I'll tell you how to program it!

I installed a trunk release myself, you do need a new command start with an aux option the acura's key fob wont work for that option.

for teh prices you guys are paying, you might as well go out and get a whole new command start installed with door release. this shouldnt be too much more.

im thinking of getting keyless entry in my 1997 2.5TL i was wondering how much would it be to get it installed from the dealer (there is no unit or anything cause my parents didnt want to play the extra money at the time cause they thought there was no need for it) and if thats too expensive what about an aftermarket brand that has like trunk release and flashes the lights to tell you its locked etc..
id like one thou with an acura logo but i guess if that'll cost too much ill settle for one without one or etch one into the remotes
