Question Humid/Moisture Starting Problems

I did a search on the problem, and came up with nothing. Every time it rains, or the humidity is high, my car REFUSES to start. Its a 98' 2.5... The most recent occurrence, I drove it to work in dry weather, so no water could have even splashed up from underneath the engine, I go inside, come out approx. 6 hrs later, its raining, and won't start. I open the hood, to see if any water had run down onto electrical components, and everything in sight is dry, including the distributor and [what i believe is the] ignition coil. I leave it overnight, and come back the next day, sunny ans no humidity, starts first try and drives home. Anybody else encounter this type of problem? I have never had this problem up until about 3 weeks ago, It has happened twice, now its being towed to my friends shop. Any ideas?

You need a new distributor cap. Mine did the same thing.

SEARCH for the EMISSIONS (I think) WARRANTY! If you are under a certain mileage and your year qualifies, the dealer will do a free tune up.

I forget the criteria. Or you can just go to the dealer with your vin and ask them to check if it was ever done.

I would suggest new coil igntion wire, new distributor cap, new distributor rotor. Somewhere there is a crack allowing spark to be shorted to ground. If coil wire is problem, new spark plug wires should be installed also.

good luck
