How to clean engine bay

I was wondering has anyone cleaned their engine bay before? I need some tips and advice on how I should do it. What part should I cover with a plastic bag? What's the best degreaser? Do I really need a power hose to clean it. Any and all tips and advice is welcome.

I would take a plastic bag and cover up the battery and alternator and fuse box.
electrical components like that.

I use simple green. but you can use ANY kind of degreaser, hence the name Degreaser. because it degreases.

mix your degreaser with water, according to the instructions on the bottle of the degreaser.
then take brush and agitate degreaser ALLL OVER ENGINE BAY. Paying attention to the dirtier spots. scrub scrub scrub!

then take your garden hose and spray the engine down, taking note of the electrical components you covered.

**note**
degreaser will leave black rubber and black plastics a gray/white color.
use some tire shine, or a product that is meant to get the black plastics to shine again, like MagicBackToBlack!

Last step... stand back, take pics, and admire your newly cleaned fresh engine bay.

Made a mistake in cleaning my engine bay and not cover the hoses, turned them nasty. Like marble color. Sucks, happened on my CRV.
