HID Install Help!!!

OK, trying to install my Hella HID's. The ballast only has a black and red wire out of it, so what do I connect them to on the headlight wiring harness? I have tried with a voltmeter to figure out what is what on the harness, but getting some strange result. THere are 3 wires on the harness, and only two on the new ballast....What goes to what!! Please help!!

Take pictures of all the parts for me and so I can get an idea.

Your harness has 3 wires? What are they? Low, High, Ground? Well, do this.... stick a voltmeter red in one hole and the black on the battery ground or metal and then find the one for the situtation that you need. I am not familar with first gen TLs. Do the headlights use dual filament or something?

Then find the one that is the low beam one. Or you can even tie the two together, low and high, so that they will also work when you turn your high beams on.

I suggest that you hook it up to the battery though and use the oem h4 harness to turn the hids on.

Well, I got it figured out yesterday afternoon.... Just grounded to the frame and put a spade on the positive to plug into the low beam 12v signal from the harness. I will be adding a relay in between as sooon as we get some REAL nice weather, had to keep shutting the hood and running under the porch every 5 minutes yesterday cause of rain....But they work! And the look sweet! I DO miss the high beams though....(hard to ghet someone's attn when you roll up behind them on the highway with out H-Beams!!) HAH! So I may be addding some driving lights, I just don't want to ruin the look of the front end with a bunch of aftermarket lights...
What to do what to do...

Yup the relay is a really good idea. The things we have to sacarfice for HIDs... lol I say well worth it and so does my friend with the same problem of no high beams hahah

I don't know where else you can add driving lights unless they double as fogs or something.

Yeah, I was thing about the fogs, but I just love the look of the yellow fogs, ESPECIALLY now with the HID's i, so I like being able to have them on all the time. (Which reminds me I have to go get a new bulb for one of them!) So I wouldn't want to put drivers in there that woudl be too bright. Maybe I'll just have to suffer, but I gotta say, I'm impressed at how well the reflector in our cars handles the HID's, doesn't make it blinding like some aftermarket ones I've seen, actually focuses the light like a normal HID. Looks pretty sick!!!

Either

get yellow fogs to add on the bottom and use the original fogs as highs

or

add additional lights on the bottom that u can use to flash ppl aimed a little up

Yeah I was thinkin the latter cause I like the yelow fogs on all the time up top. I might just have to find some smaller fogs, mount them to the bottom grill and set up a relay onto the high beam output so they will flash with the old high beam on the stalk. Now to find some figs I actually liek that won't take away from the fron of the car....

Where are you guys finding these HID kits, I keep looking for them but I am not willing to spend over a g-note. Is there a good quality lesser expensive kit out there. The only one I have found is on hidfactory.com but I dont know bout the quality.

I got mine for $300 CDN used from a friend who got sick of bein high beamed in his Land Rover Discovery II, so he sold them to me. They were too bright in that truck. They actually seem to focus pretty well in the TL though. They are Hella ballasts, so I'm hoping they are good quality.... I know of a place up here (stereo shop I go to) that has one still sitting in the box for about $700 CDN. I don't know if it is H4 bulbs or not...

I've been able to find some that range from $250US to $500US. Depends on the brand. I went with the more expensive ones because I dont want to bother with extra headaches.

Look for used sets on ebay. I bought a set for $150 less because it was used.
