Help Please
I need you guys' advice. I have a 96' 3.2 TL. My car has 162,000+ miles on it. Because of the high miles, I Don't think its performaning like it should. It runs queit, but it feels so slow. I was running 110 miles on the freeway racing a civic SI and it pulled a car length from me. It made me feel like sh#t. Anyways, is it time to rebuild my engine+trans. or should I just do an engine swap project. I was thinking new TL-S engine or a superchrged JDM H22A+trans. I have about $5,000 to spend. Your comments would greatly appreciated.

I personally think its alright if an SI spanks you cuz SI's are light and come in manual transmission. Considering the fact that your cars a 3.2 (how many hp is that?) you might consider in modifying your car by getting a cold air intake with a filter...and maybe finding someone who can make you a custom header. besides, that SI is probably highly modified anyway! so cheer up! actually, i think that if you two go top speed (not at the take off) you'll spank him like nothing..

Jsut go get a tune up, and get an intake. Swaping engines would cost alot of money and TLS wouldnt fit in teh 1st gen Tl without some major mods, the H22 motor wouldnt be a good idea either since it only makes about 200HP and you 3.2TL puts out 200HP also. A better idea you might want to think of is adding some NOS.

i already have an intake(custom cold air box) and got a tune up a couple of months ago. the only reason i considered the H22 is, because of the manual trans. and the j.racing supercharger.

i have 162k+ miles. is nos a safe option? my trans also shifts weird sometimes under hard throttle. i found a complete H22 changeover kit(engine, axles, ecu, trans., and clutch) for $2600. will labor cost more than $2,000.

Concidering The H22 is not a direct bolt up to your factory motor mounts, which will require custom mounts to be mad then welded into the engine bay. Which will require more labor which will cost more, you might want to check shops to see how much labor would cost for your car..

h22 is also around 200hp but its a dohc, which will give you the benefit of the doubt. As din said, its not an easy fit-bolt-on but you do have a good price at 2600 for the motor, axles, ecu, and tran... labor will cost you more than 2 g's bro since it has to be modified to fit. the question is, "is it worth it?" I guess if you have the money to spare, go for it. oh and don't get a turbocharger for your engine cuz dohc motors causes turbo lag... If you want to save all the money and trouble...just nos it
