HELLA HID's

OK, I just picked up a set of used Hella HID's for my TL. Looking at the kit, it looks like I could just fit the factory clip into the ballast, instead of using the wires that come off of the clip that is in the ballast....WIll this work? Has anyone used this kit before? Or do I have to connect to a 12V power source other than the headlight plug itself HELP PLEASE!

Some kits are plug n play, some aren't. You have a ballast with 2 sets of wires coming out of it, right? One set goes to the ignitor which then goes to the bulb. The other set goes either directly into you headlight plug (if its made for H4) or wired to your battery via a relay. If the kit is made for H4's just go ahead and plug it in. If not, then you'll either have to use those Radio Shack wire tap-ins or just wire it to your battery using a relay. Use one of the headlight power wires as a trigger for the relay. It's easy. Let me know if you need more help.

Thanks man, I figured it was just plug and play, these are H4's. There's one big fat cable with the connector on the end for the buld, and the ballast itself has what looks like and H4 style socket, which right now has a plug with a red and black wire coming out. I should be able to take out the plug that's in there and plug in my factory one, and that's it, correct? It won't burn out the factory wires from too much current draw or anything will it?

No, but you'll probably have to upgrade your headlights fuses up to 20 amps. I think stock is 15 amps. Regardless, go 5 amps higher than stock. Good luck!

hey dom... when i put my hids in i didn't use a relay.. i just tapped a positive line from the switch off the factory headlight harness... and then ground to the chassis... i know that usually just as foglights use a relay w/ constant and switched... but i was lazy... do i really need to do that too??? and for the hids in the fog housing... i just tapped ground and positive off the fog lines... i know how relays work but i never knew the reasoning for them when wiring fogs or objects like this... like i know that i have to use them for something like a trunk solenoid where the feed is positive and the trunk works off negative...

Nah it'll be fine without it. I've had mine setup that way for a long time. Some people over at www.hidforum.com say over time it can damage the harnesses but I haven't had any trouble yet.
