Hard shifts 1st to 2nd

I have a clunk that occurs under medium acceleration when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd. Took it to my mechanic who thought it was motor mounts.

Blah, well its not the mounts. My mechanic is sorta flaky, he does a good job, but still flaky. Anyway, took my car to Aamco, no tranny probs and mounts are fine. Just has a hard shift from 1st to 2nd, they suggested calling the dealership to see about any computer relearns or recalls or bulletins. Turns out there is a bulletin for hard shifts, calls for draining and filling the trans fluid 3 times, run the car 20 miles in between drain and fills. That stops it. Could also be the ppl before me didn't use genuine honda ATF. We must use genuine honda ATF!!! So anyway, just a heads up for all you 1st gens that might have the same issue. HTH

BTW, $48.60 for a case of honda ATF!!!! Quoted me 55 something, but i asked for a discount and got 7 bucks off

normal, all acuras shift hard from 1st to second. use lucus tranmission stop slip with the tranny fluid and it will dramatically reduce the jerk, it's in mine car and was in my dads TL.

Which TL is yours Impur?

I know the TRANNY mount sometimes wears out on the C32/C35 motors.

Chances are you're screen filter needs cleaned. I cleaned mine and now it's not nearly as bad. It's just like any other Honda auto trans.

I have a '98 3.2. Aamco said all the mounts were ok, they put it up on the rack and checked it out for me.

How difficult is it to change the screen filter? Where is it located, is it in the pan? I was toying with the idea of doing 2 drain and fills and then taking it to Aamco to do the final drain and fill and replace the filter all together.

I drained the tranny fluid and refilled it twice. Fixed the problem completely, now shifts nice, quiet and smooth.
