gold emblems

anyone know if the gold finish on gold emblems will come off to reveal chrome underneath if the same process is used as in the chrome shift gate?

the chrome shift plate just has a very thin layer of metal, under that its all plastic. im gonna assume the same with the emblems

IIRC, it's gold paint, so underneath is just grey plastic.
