Gauges messed up...Help!
ok so i got these installed at a shop while they put in the new viper alarm. when i got the car back today i noticed teh temp gauge is stuck! and the speedometer lags a good 10 MPH when i step on th gas and is real slow to go down when i break. ALSO i have been driving around for a good 2 hrs ive put in at least a good 25-30 miles and the fuel meter stays in same place.RPM needle seems normal.
Am i totally screwed??
do i just need to manually re adjust them. trim a little off the border ( it may be rubbing thus not letting it move freely) or would taking them to recalibrate do any good?
ive read in other threads that if they mess up i would need to totally replace them
PLEASE HELP ASAP!!

You got your gauges installed??? Mine were messed up and i fixed them manually... its not that hard actually... if you've been driving for a long time you should be able to tell what speed you are going without the speed-0-meter... but if you can't... i suggest having your buddy drive next to you while you adjust your gauges...
BTW: Tape a rag or something to protect the top of the steering wheel plastic thing so it doesn't get scratched...
I can tell you how to... or you can just take it back to the bastards so they can fix it for you... either way... BTW: the problem with the needles is that they probably pressed them down to far... they need to be slightly loose...
fuel needle will not work properly! it can move freely and everything because i can move it up and down quite easily with my hand. the problem is it won't budge when im driving (will not mark usage of gas). i tried resetting it by completely disconnecting the cluster, manually putting needle below Empty reconnecting cluster and then turning on car. did this at least 3-4 times and it did the same thing every time. it goes up no problem about 3 mm above Full but i will not go down from there. am i doing something wrong???
how can i correct this if someone has some knowledge of how to recalibrate i would really appreciate it.

My fuel guage doesn't go down until I've driven a good 60-70 miles after filling up. And by the time it gets to empty I still have about 3 gallons left. But my guage is stock. I would suggest driving it more before you assume it's not working.
wait..
a shop installed the indiglos gauges covers?.
at the same time they installed the alarm?.
if so..they did not carefully center and stick down the center of the gauge covers.
2 cents
the needles are rubbing.
ooohh....rubbing..

***wonders if cali2.5tl read spooky's post...***
knowledgable... i'm going down to So-Cal in a couple weeks with ELA.TL to pick up my rims if you want to let me try and fix them... no guarentee (sp) that i'll get them working... I got mine working pretty good... When i installed my gauges my Temp gauge wasn't moving... RMP gauge wasn't moving... Speed-o- wasn't moving... and my fuel gauge broke (the needle behind the needle...if that makes sense)...
Basicly... since i looked at my gauges all the time (also took a picture while car was in the on position after a long drive and in the off position) I knew exactly where the needles had to be...
For the temp gauge... if you know where the needle is when its hot after a drive... Drive it... leave the car on... (you should have the gauge cluster out but still wired)... Put the needle on lightly!!! to hard will give you the problem you are having now...
For the rpm gauge... Turn the car completely off... (make sure its in park
) Install the needle so that the tip is touching that little stopper on the Tach... Turn the car on and rev it a bit... the needle should move freely... (you'll have to do it a couple times because the needle will either 1. Sit there at idle or go way to high on idle... When you first turn the car on it goes to about 1000 to 1250 RPM's and then when it kind of gets warm or starts to really "Idle" should be between 750 to 1000 rpm's... (Mine idles at 1000 RPM's) When you turn the car off now it should go down normally to the stopper thing... Again... push it down lightly... to hard will put you in the same situation you are in right now...For the MPH... Of course there is 0 mph at a complete stop... so take the needle off... and wait a few seconds... minutes... and then put the needle so that it rests on the stopper thing... Like i said in my previous post... if you've driven a lot... you should kind of know what speed you are going without having to see a gauge... If it feels about right... that is the closest to the stock speed you are going to get... You can also have a friend side by side with you with the windows down or on radio's or cell phones telling you what speeds... then put the needle on at that speed... Again... push it down lightly... to hard will put you in the same situation you are in right now...
For the gas gauge... From your previous post i've read that you kind of know where the gauge is when its completly full...
Sorry no pics... and i don't feel like going through all that unless i have to (like helping you out personally)...
and if any of this does't work... Sorry to say but you might need new gauges... because they probably busted them when doing the instal...
lets hope not...

im curious.... how exactly does the computer sense the gas is being wasted? does it sense the pressure in the tank as far as liquid vs gaseous pressure or is it all just electronically measured. i mean say if i had 1/2 a tank, disconnected the gauges completely, and moved the needle below E and then reconnect it would it hypothetically go back to its previous position at half or would it do something else. that is what is bugging me because if that is the case then why if i have wasted gas and am not past full would it keep on going there after i reconnected it? memory of its "previous" position?
