gas in engine bay

when i changed my fuel filter, some gas sprayed on the engine since the new gasket that came with the filter wasn't a good fit. i put the old back on and it's fine. i'm waiting for the gas to evaporate. is that good enough? i don't want any flames in there. would washing down the engine do the trick? i'd have to try to dry off the electrical stuff..but that's all over the engine too, so i'm hesitant. any thoughts are appreciated. thanks

i think its safe as long as you take a grocery bag (the plastic ones of course) and cover the battery terminals and the ignition distributors.
