Front speaker

I want to replace the front speakers in my 96 TL and I would like to know what size speakers would fit in the front without any modification. I tried to search the forums for any previous posts but just couldn't find any.

Thanks.

6.5" but you'll still need modified rings to get them to fit...or so i was told. I have yet to install components in my ride.

if yours fit then your okay. its the expensive ones with thick magnets that don't fit. im not saying your speakers are cheap though.

Oh. Should the speakers have a small mounting depth for them to fit?

Yes I'm interested if anyone uses audiobahn speakers and what they think? I'm also curious the correct way to remove the original speakers in the car.

i have some polk audio 6.5" speakers in my doors and 6 1'2" in the rear. For the rear, the speakers fit perfectly. But for the doors, i had to drill new holes in order to mount the new speakers because the magnets on them were too big to fit on the stock plastic speaker holders. It took me about half an hour to put in all 4 speakers and it was pretty simple. Good luck guys.

just what i said. if you have speakers with thick magnets, you'll need aftermarket rings or you'll have to custom make them to fit.

as for the backs, i didnt know 6.5" speakers fit back there! i thought they were 6x9??

I have JVC 6x9's in the rear (3 way) and Kaption components up front (6.5 in the door and tweeter in stock location). Sounds pretty good, but I think I'm gonna get another amp for the 6x9's they are too overpowering and running off the same channels as my fronts. Need to tone them down a bit. And since I have a nice 7 channel crossover sitting in my closet, maybe I should use it....

Baller, there's no pics to see it looks stock!! I took the factory ones out of the front (dash) tweeter grille and fit mine in, I was lucky, they fit pretty well. (Had to take the bracket off of the factory ones and use it). I also had to fin some wood that was JUST the right size to fit behind the speaker to make it snug against the bracket. I am doing some work on my system this weekend since it will FINALLY be warm enough to do that and install my alarm, so I'll take some pics for ya when I'm doin that with the covers off.

cornflake: so your saying that your tweeters (at the dome light) also need to be modified to fit? i was afraid that aftermarket tweeters wont fit and didnt want those tweeters to be exposed. i want my aftermarket tweeters to be hidden behing the stock mesh grill that came with the car.

Yo guys, the tweeters by the dome light are used for a center channel. If your aftermarket system isn't configured with a DSP or at least a separate amp for the center channel, then you're prolly better off to just not use those ones. They were desinged into the factory system which has a DSP for the center channel to give more realistic sound stage. Anyways, yeah the dash ones fit in behinfd the stock grilles. Once you pull out the grill, you have to take off the factory speaker and find a way to hold an aftermarket one in place. I was lucky, the Kaption's I am using are fairly small so they fit, if yours are larger, you may need to improvise a little. It rained all weekend so I didn't get a chance to take the pics for ya, but hoipefully I am off on Wednesday and it's supposed to be nice so I'll do it then. Will hopefully have my CodeAlarm installed then too! Can't wait! 2-way Pager, remote start...(already have remote startbut the remote doesn't tell me when it's started yet!!) haha!! (Can you tell I'm giddy to get it installed!?)
