Fog Light Life

Before I burn in the fires of your guys' flame attacks, I DID do a search and nowhere did I find any info about the life of the first generation TL foglights? I'm just wondering because I like to leave mine on while driving when it's dark out (a lot of the time in the winter, fall and spring here), and I don't want them burning out on me anytime soon. Have any of you had yours burn out?

To be honest(sp?), I use my fogs quite a bit at night, and they haven't been changed since the car was bought from the factory in 1996. (at least to my knowledge)

I wouldn't worry too much about the stock bulbs. But aftermarket is another story...

Thanks for the reply. Yes they're the stock bulbs, and I like the look just fine. No need to mess with a good thing!

I've got 130K and my stock fog light bulbs have never been replaced. I imagine that when they do it shouldn't be a much more difficult fix than changing out the headlight bulb.

Changed one last summer for first time, second this summer. First time since brand new they have been changed, have them on 100% of time when driving. No more difficult to change than headlights, same procedure, just different bulb. Have to get from dealer, or modify regular H3 (uses H3C, doesn't have the pigtail that a regular H3 has). Bulbs are EXPENSIVE from dealer, $25.00 CDN, but considering how long they last, not too bad really. Hope my Xenon's last that long, scared to think how much those bulbs are! Just changed all my other front bulbs tonight to super whites, looks pretty good! But I'll never get rid of the yellow fog covers, part of the style of the car.

Ya I've had my TL for almost 3 years, and they are still good. They usually go a while.

I bought my 98 3.2 used in 2001 @ 43k miles. Had to replace the fogs at around 60k or so. Went a bit cheaper (NAPA); these burned out in less than a month. Replaced again with OEM bulbs from Acura, haven't had to touch them since then. I highly recommend OEM Acura bulbs or high quality aftermarket if you replace, not cheapos (they end up costing you $$). I run my fogs all the time; I still have my yellow covers on them.

I leave mine on pretty much all the time. During night, they improve the lighting to the sides so it's easier to see around corners. And during the day... They just look cool.

Fog bulbs

sorry guys, I couldn't find anything on this exact topic, but has anyone modified their fogs and got rid of the yellow covers? If so, I'm looking for a sweet HID looking or blue bulbs. Any idea of where to get them? I took of the covers and they don't match my HID wanna-be headlights (Silver Star).

Also, (brand new to this sweet site) how do I post pictures of my ride on this site???

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I thought some of the "older guys" on this site would talk $*** on newbies with retarted questions like myself.

Anyway, thanks again. I've already used the vast knowledge at this site to do a couple mods on my 3.2. Hope I can help out some time....

What's up, Cornflake? Hey man, did I understand you correctly? Did you say you have Xenon bulbs in your fog lights assembly??? That's what I'm looking for, but I don't want to put some trash bulb in there that might blow or burn up my wires. Do you have any tips?

Anyone else have the same problem as me???

Thanks all!

Not much man, my Fogs are orignal right down to OEM bulbs and Yellow condims. That's one of the things I LOVE on this car. My HEADLIGHTS are TRUE HID lights, ballast and all. If you are going to use HID it's very simple to hook up, just ground the Ballast to the frame, and wire the power lead to a relay switched from the original headlight lead. If you need help with the relay wireing PM me and I'll give some help.

are your hid's the bixenon type or just single? I saw they sold bixenon type hid's and i was wondering how well they work. Are your retrofited with projectors or just a rebased kit? If it's rebased what brand did you get?

Not sure what "rebased" means, if it refers to the HID bulbs being "rebased" to fit a standard H4 socket, then yes that's what I have. I don't think it would be too easy to find a projector kit that would fit our cars without SERIOUS customisation. Mine are single bulbs (no high) and the ignitor/ballast is built into one unit. Just plug and play.

I'd love to get the real deal (HID's) but I don't have an extra $300.00 or so bucks on me just yet for it. I 1st want to get my Eclipse EQ, then a capicator, new tires (mine are so bald...40K mile warrant my ass) and then I'll be looking into HID's. About how much did your whole set up cost you???

Well, fortunately for me, my friend had them in his Land Rover Discovery II and got tired of getting high beamed from ppl thinking he had his highs on, so he GAVE them to me. I spent about $30 on relays and wiring (Which I have STILL not installed, talk about lazy eh!?)

sweet deal for you! I just have wanna-be HID's in mine and people flast me a lot. I just flash the right back and show them just how bright my brights really are. After reading about HID's, can you (or anyone else) recommend a good HID kit, and about how much they cost?

LOL I would flash them back, but I don't have High beams any more!! (One of the drawbacks of replacing H4's with a real HID kit). My kit is Hella. I know one of the shops around here has a kit for sale for $799 CDN. I think it's Hella as well.

Yeah, but that's CDN $$$ and it's at a stereo shop, so that doesn't really count as a real price...

That makes me feel a little better...Do they require professional install, or is it fairly easy for novice to do?
